“I hope he’s alright…” Hermione mused to Harry as Draco closed himself in his room.

Harry looked up from his paper with a smirk on his face, “caring for a git now are we?”

Hermione tossed a pillow at him and laughed, “I have an appreciation for him, but I just hope everything’s alright….he doesn’t normally lock himself in his room right away.”

Harry shrugged, “he did seem disappointed about something…”

“Maybe he got low marks on something.”

“I don’t think Malfoy would care about that…unless it was potions.”

Both began snickering, Hermione glanced at the door that led to Draco’s room but didn’t think that he would appear for the rest of the day.

“How’s Ron?” Hermione whispered looking back at her paper.

Harry shrugged looking at Hermione with a small smile, “he asked me if you’ve been eating lately.”

Hermione smiled slightly and sighed, “I wish he’d just drop the whole fight thing.”

Harry sighed, “Hermione….maybe if you just gave it a shot?”

“No Harry. If I acted on my feelings who knows what would happen! I could lose him as a friend I could lose you as one also! Why is it bad that I’d want to keep a friendship over trying something new that could end in disaster? He left us in the woods Harry I can’t just trust that he’ll stay with me all the time. He had his chance, I waited for him to ask me to the Yule Ball and we remember how that went and then Lavender in sixth year…I just can’t trust that he’ll always be there like I’d hope for. I use to imagine that it was possible for us to be together but then everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong and now I’m left to observe all the bad things that have occurred.” Tears welled in Hermione’s eyes as she looked at Harry.

“I understand Hermione, I was told to try once and that’s it. But he did come back if that counts for anything.” Harry shrugged and continued writing; he didn’t want to hurt Hermione’s feelings anymore, he knew that if he continued with this topic they would end up fighting with each other just like last night.

Hermione nodded and looked away, “I know he came back Harry but he left and well…why is he set on trying?”

Harry shrugged, “don’t know…I can see why he’d want to confront you but why he’s so persistent, maybe it’s because he’s finally realized just how beautiful you are and just how much he loves you…and to be fair when he was gone, you would say his name in your sleep every night until he returned so I know you have feelings for him, there’s no other reason. And don’t forget he was only able to come back because of your voice.”

Hermione looked at the door the handsome platinum blonde now hid behind and whispered to Harry, “Yes, yes, the ball of light that had my voice. I know…but,” Hermione quickly looked at the door where the head boy’s room was and gave out a small sigh, “I kind of wished that….well actually I don’t know what…”

Harry looked at Hermione with shock, “you two kissed didn’t you?”

“No! Its just weird that he’s suddenly wanting to start a new…I can’t get my mind around that and it makes me wonder what if he hadn’t been an arse for the past years.”

Harry sighed, “Hermione. I know Malfoy might seem intriguing when you put it that way but would you be willing to go on just curiosity to hurt Ron?” Harry rubbed his eyes, “talk to him Hermione….its the only thing you can do and it could help you figure out what you want. Plus, I can tell by the way you look at him you fancy him.”

Hermione froze as she glared at him, “we’ve been over this Harry.”

Harry leaned in closer, “and yet you’re worried and you just happened to mention that you’d be willing to stick a relationship on the fact that you’re curious about what could happen.”

Hermione sighed, Harry had caught her but her stubbornness would not let her live it down. “I’m not going to tell a man who use to hate me with all his being no matter how much he’s changed.”

Harry leaned in even closer to Hermione, “what if he’s listening to us and he heard everything?”

Hermione gave the tiniest squeak, “what if he did?”

Harry gave a small smile, “you’ll have to talk to him about it.”

Hermione stared at the door deciding what to do, she was confused and didn’t know the next step she should take. “and you’re alright with this right?”

“Personally no, but if that’s what you want…I have no right to stop you, I’ll support you no matter what happens.”

Hermione nodded slowly, “then I’ll try.”

Harry began to gather all of his belongings while Hermione gathered hers, “If you need me for anything I will be in my common room alright Hermione?”

Hermione nodded before turning towards a small plaque door with DRACO MALFOY written on it, “you can do this Hermione,” Harry whispered behind her as she advanced towards the door listening to the portrait hole open and close. Hermione knocked once, waiting for the door to open and when it did the classic smirk of Draco Malfoy looked back at her and Hermione’s hopes of him not listening were crushed and she could feel herself inching towards the cliffs of despair. But before Hermione could retaliate to the infamous smirk Draco leaned down, gently cupped her face in his hands and kissed her.
