The violet painted sky became mixed with orange streaks as the sun barged its way through the clouds. It was the next morning and I felt like shit. I had been up the whole night crying and waiting for Nique, but he didn't come home.
"Lord, please bring Nique home safe to me," I prayed as I stared at Tyree stirring from his sleep.
"I'm dersty Nanny." That was his way of saying good morning as he rubbed his eyes.
"Want some cereal? You can drink the milk."
"Yay!" was his answer.
I got up and hauled myself in to the kitchen to get a small plastic bowl for him and poured in some Cocoa Puffs then drowned them in milk.
"Here you go." I sat the bowl on the kitchen floor and handed him the spoon and he walked over.
I don't know why I gave that boy a spoon because he never uses them. He ate the cereal, picking up the Cocoa Puffs one at a time then sipped the chocolate flavored milk from the bowl, barely getting any into his mouth.
I couldn't even fuss at him. I just smiled and ran off to grab a mop.
"Stay right there and don't move," I told him before running off.
When I returned I spotted his little bad butt sitting on my Henredon sectional.
Right before I could even open my mouth to tell him anything, I saw Nique trying to ease his way inside without being seen.
"My-Nique!" Tyree climbed down from the couch and ran toward him.
"I don't know why you're trying to sneak in, I've been waiting for you since last night." Where have you been?"
He picked Tyree up and held him with one hand. "I already know baby and I'm sorry." I eyed the bouquet of roses and box of chocolates in his free hand and that shit just pissed me off even more.
I snatched the roses and chocolates out of his hand and threw them to the floor. "You bastard! You ignore all my calls and just disappear. And you didn't even have the courtesy to call and check to see how Tyree and I were." I slapped his arm. "And now you want to show up with some flowers and candy and think everything's kosher?"
"Nanny mad!" Tyree added his two cents and it softened my heart a little, but I was still heated.
"I know, I know." He let Tyree down and grabbed a hold of my waist. "I just had to clear my mind."
"Clear your mind? Nique, Me and Tyree were worried sick wondering where you were!"
"We was worried sick My-Nique." Tyree mocked.
"What did you have to think about like that Nique?"
"About a lot of stuff Baby Girl, you, the baby, and just everything in general. Then that mess with Ace... All the craziness just started getting to me."
"It got to you?" I laughed sarcastically. "More like you got to it."
"What the fuck do you mean by that?" He stepped up to me threateningly.
"Watch your mouth! You know Tyree likes to repeat what he hears." I scolded, looking up at him unmoved. Getting back to the subject at hand I posed, "What really happened last night?"
"What you mean?"
"Do not play dumb with me Nique. Just be real and tell me where you really went when you said you were going for a walk."
