"You wanted to ride with me so you can talk, so talk."
"Is something wrong?"
"Nah I'm good ma."
"Then why have you been ignoring me?"
"Jasmine, chill out. Ain't nobody been ignoring you."
"I'm not stupid Nique. You haven't said a single word to me for the pass four fucking days."
"Man what do you want from me?" He slammed on the brakes. "You think you're my girl now?"
"No, but..."
"But shit! I fucked up, we both did, but like you said, Kyrielle is your friend and that's 'bout to be my wife. I'm not trying to fuck that up for nothing."
"Fuck it Nique." I opened the passenger door of his Navigator. "And fuck you too!" I finished before hopping out of the car and slamming it shut.
I left his car and headed down the street. I didn't know where I was, but I just kept walking.
"Jasmine get back in the goddamn car!" He parked his car and followed behind me. "This is not my hood and it ain't safe for you to just be wandering around ouchea." He grabbed at me, but only air filled his clutches.
"Why the fuck are you so worried if I don't mean shit to you."
He finally got me in his arms and said, "I didn't say that, you know I care about you." I just laughed in his face. "I'm serious Jay, I love you."
I looked at him as he pulled me closer. "You don't mean that."
"You think I like not talking to you. Shit, you the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing I remember before I bow my head at night. I do love you Jasmine."
"Then why are you still with Kyrielle?" I found myself asking.
"That's not a fair question."
"And why not?"
"Because I love her too, but for different reasons. And if I left her that means I'm leaving Tyree too and I ain't 'bout to do that to him."
I couldn't argue with him, he was right. I didn't think about how much it would affect Tyree. I was being selfish and yet I still wanted him. Some kind of way I was just going to have to live with it for the sake of Tyree. He was the innocent one in all this so why should he have to suffer.
"Now let's get the fuck back in the car before some shit pop off." He dragged me to the car.
"Where are we going anyways?" I wanted to know as we got back in his Navigator and pulled off. Nique ignored the question and kept rolling so I just sat back and enjoyed the ride.
We rode for miles before we finally reached civilization.
"Venetian Isles," I read the sign as we entered the Podunk town.
After we came to an abrupt stop in the garage of a vintage looking one story brick house, Nique finally spoke. "Help me with these bags in the trunk."
I got out the same time he did and we both met at the rear of the car.
"Take this." He handed me two heavy ass duffel bags. "Can you handle that?"
"I mean they're heavy, but I've got it." I started to ask what was in them, but decided to just keep my mouth shut.
"Come on." I walked behind him as he went inside the house through the garage door.
