As I swing my lanyard over my neck I follow my boss into the back room. It's my first day of work at the Vans store. This was honestly the only place that would take me. There was one yellow haired guy back there. "So this is where all the shoes are. If they ask for a different size you go and get it." My boss explained, and I nodded. "Don't mess this up." He added before pushing past me. I looked at the yellow haired boy, who was eyeing  me suspiciously. I looked at his name tag that read Josh.

"How long have you been working here, Josh?" I asked curiously hopping onto a counter.

"Oh, uh, maybe a month. I don't really know." He said, and walked out of the room with four boxes of shoes. I followed him. The store wasn't very busy, and it seemed like we were the only ones working today. That meant, I assumed, he'd be working the register. I sighed and slumped down on a bench, examining the racks of shoes. Josh hopped over the counter to ring someone up.

I spent hours just sitting there. No one really came in. At the end of my shift I clocked out and took a sweep around the store. I found a beanie that I like so I walked over to Josh who was playing with his lanyard. "$3.54" He spoke. I handed him the money and he handed me the receipt. I looked at the bottom to see a sloppy number scribbled at the bottom. He was already walking out of the store as I went to smile at him.
