It's been two weeks. Two weeks since I left Jason and his family. Two weeks since I had seen, talked to, or heard about them. And these two weeks have sucked.
I have never gotten so attached to someone in so little time. Which means that not having them in my life hurts. It's pure torture. I never knew a person could go through pain this way, and now that I've experienced it, I never want to again.
"Lucy, are you almost ready? Hurry up, or you'll be late." Aunt Kathleen says, walking into my room. She sighs when she sees me. "You haven't even gotten out of bed. Do you want to go to the carnival or not?"
This weekend Gotham Academy is hosting its annual school carnival. All students and faculty members get in free, which is basically a command to come. I've gone every year, and every year it's the same old thing. Crappy rides, crappy games, crappy prizes, crappy food, and a long, boring speech from Bruce Wayne, who sponsors the school and the carnival.
"No, I want to go." I say, but this statement is only half true.
I want to go to the carnival and do something instead of feel sorry for myself, but I also don't want to face the possibility of seeing Jason.
"Then, get up, love. Come on, if you hurry I can get you there on time." Aunt Kathleen leaves my room, and I get out of bed.
I head to the bathroom to get ready. I grab my toothbrush and squirt some toothpaste on it, then begin brushing my teeth. Afterwards, I wash my face and walk back into my bedroom. I make my way to my closet and search until I find something. I settle on a pair of dark, skinny jeans, a black tank top, the gotham academy symbol in the corner, and my leather jacket. Finally, I brush my hair and pull it into two pigtails and add a little makeup. I stare at my reflection for a bit.
'Don't worry you won't see him.' I tell myself, and there is a good chance I won't. Bruce comes every year and has never once brought his family. I'll be fine. I'll have a good time...well, an average time. I smile and walk downstairs.
"Ready?" Aunt Kathleen smiles.
"Yep." I return.
We head to the car and get in. the car ride to the school is silent but that's ok. this silence isn't a weird silence, it's a comfortable silence. We are simply enjoying each other's company. Finally we arrive at school.
"Alright, sweetheart, call me when you're ready to come home." Aunt Kathleen says as I get out of the car. I nod, closing the door.
I begin walking towards the back of the school, where all the commotion is. When I get back there, I see that some thought was actually put into the carnival this year.
The food doesn't look too bad, there are more rides, which look new and safe, and there are more lights, to give off the carnival feeling. Maybe I can actually have some fun this year. I smile and walk into the carnival.
A lot more people are here than any other year, so I have to dodge people left and right. Suddenly, I am approached by one of my classmates.
"Hey, Lucy, how are you today?" She ask. I recognize her as Dina, a green eyed, blonde, bubbly girl. She was nice but also fearful, so she usually stayed away from me.
"Hi, Dina. I'm fine. How about you?" I say.
"Oh, I'm fine. Well, I have to go, Bruce Wayne's speech is about to start. I'll see you around!" She calls, running off. I smile and nod. If the speech is about to begin I should head that way.
I make my way towards the stage where Bruce Wayne usually gives his speech and find a spot. A couple of seconds later, Bruce walks up to the front of the stage. I choke a little when I see who's behind him. His whole family. Dick, Kody, Jason, Tim, and Damian all stand behind him. I quickly duck my head, attempting to hide.
"Hello, everyone, and welcome to the seventh annual Gotham Academy Carnival." Bruce begins. "This year I will make my speech short and sweet. On behalf of all the fantastic people who helped to put this function on, I would like to say thank you. As you know, usually I am not able to stay for the festivities, but this year my family and I will be joining you all." 'Just great.' I think. "Again, I would like to thank you all for and attending, and I hope you enjoy your time." Bruce closes. Everyone claps, and I raise my head, hoping they've left the stage. Sadly, I am wrong. I duck my head again, praying I wasn't noticed, but I am wrong because next thing I know my name is being shouted.
"Lucy!"
