Chapter 8

The final bell rings throughout the school.

"Alright, class dismissed." Mr. Tater says, closing his book.

I smile widely and jump out of my seat. Finally, I can leave this horror house. I run to my locker, grab my stuff, and get ready to leave. I walk through the corridors, dodging kids left and right.

"James, you have to see this." A boy says to his friend.

I wonder what they're talking about. Most likely something stupid, or something Francine did. I continue walking, without a second thought, but I come stop when I reach the courtyard.

A huge crowd is gathered around something and blocking my path. I let out a huff and begin pushing my way to the front.

"Pardon me." I mutter as I brush past people.

I'm almost to the front, when I finally see what all the excitement is about. My breathe catches in my throat, and I shrink behind Francine, who was right in front of me. I peek from behind her, taking in the image again. There, in the middle of the crowd, stands Dick, Kody, Jason, Tim, and Damian. They all lean against a shiny, sleek, black car with aviator sunglasses on. Dick and Kody have their arms wrapped around each other protectively. Tim and Damian stand there with their faces turned toward each other. And Jason leans against the car with his head down. He actually looks kind of cute.

"There she is!" Someone exclaims, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I look up to see Tim coming my way.

"Me!?" Francine jumps with excitement.

Tim extends his hand, reaching for me. Francine begins to extend her hand, ready to take Tim's, but he grabs my hand first. Tim brings me forward, and I hear a angry scream come from Francine.

"Hey, Lucy." Tim smiles as he drags me forward.

"Tim." I nod.

"Hey, Lucy." Dick and Damien say as I reach everyone.

"Hey, Quinn." Kody greets, the usual smirk present on her face. I wave.

Jason is the only one who doesn't say anything. He simply stares at me, a small smile playing on his lips. He really is quite cute.

"Quinn, catch." Kody says. I snap out of my daze just in time to catch the object flying towards me. I look down and see they are aviator sunglasses.

"Put those on. Jason, grab her stuff. Then, both of you in the car." Kody instructs. She detaches from Dick and gets in the car. Damian, Tim, and Dick follow her lead while Jason walks towards me.

"Hey." He breathes. His hot breath hits me ear, and I shiver.

"What are you doing here?" I ask. He slides my back pack from my shoulders.

"I didn't want you walking down anymore alleys." He laughs.

I smile nervously and slip on the aviators. Jason then grabs my hand, and we head towards the car. Once inside, Dick speaks.

"What's something fun you guys want to do?" He ask.

"Study." Tim answers.

"I think we should perfect our combat skills. I mean, you guys should, I'm already perfect." Damian says.

Everybody is silent.

"To the mall we go." Jason says finally.

"To the mall we go." Dick confirms.
