"Ok, ok, tell me something about yourself. Something no one else knows." Jason says through a mouthful of cotton candy.
I think about what to tell him, then it comes to me. "Ok, my hair isn't naturally green." I confess.
"Seriously?" He ask. For a minute I think he's joking, but when I study his expression, I see he's serious.
"Yeah, I was born with blonde hair. I dyed it green in fourth grade. That was the year I really started learning about my father. I thought changing my hair color to match his would somehow make me closer to him. I don't know why. I guess since I was only ten. You know, when you're ten stuff like that makes sense." I explain. He nods.
"Your dad, does he know you exist?" He questions, licking cotton candy from his lip.
I shake my head. "Aunt Kathleen said that Mom didn't tell him because she knew he wouldn't care. He's too busy for a child." I say.
"Yeah, busy." Jason grumbles, glaring at the ground.
"What?" I ask. Jason's head shoots up.
"What do you mean what?" He ask, playing off his last action.
"I mean, what was that? You seem mad at something." I say.
"Oh, it's...nothing. It's just your dad's not the greatest person, and he's hurt a lot of people." Jason says.
"Yeah, I know." I duck my head.
"But this is supposed to be a happy occasion, so let's not talk about that." Jason says. "I mean, look, I'm a unicorn." He takes his cotton candy cone and sticks it on top of his head. "I burst out laughing. "What are you laughing at? No one laughs at the majestic King Unicorn." Jason commands. I just laugh harder.
"What's so funny?" A voice ask from behind me. I turn around to find Bruce Wayne standing behind there.
"Oh, Bruce Wayne." I immediately straighten up.
"Hello, young lady." Bruce acknowledges, then looks behind me at Jason. "What are you doing?" He sighs.
"I'm the magical King Unicorn." Jason answers.
"What are you...like seven?" Bruce shakes his head.
I giggle. Jason smiles, drops the cone, and walks up behind me, wrapping an arm around me.
"Bruce, this is Lucy, the one I was talking about." Jason introduces. He talked about me?
"Oh, you're Lucy. Yes, Jason's told me countless times over the weeks how amazing you are." Bruce smiles. I blush slightly. "Your name is Lucy...?" He ask.
"Quinn." I whisper. Oh god, what if Bruce hates that I'm Harley Quinn's daughter? Will this break up me and Jason?
Bruce's face goes blank. "I wasn't aware she had a child." Is all he says.
"Many people aren't." I inform him.
"It was nice to meet you, Lucy. You seem like a wonderful girl." Bruce's smile returns, and he walks off.
I sigh and slump into Jason. "He hates me." I say.
"No, he doesn't. He's just a tough nut. Really, on the inside he's a big, old softie. All you have to do is get passed the hard shell. And I mean, he has a right to be tough, he's seen a lot in his day." Jason pecks my forehead. "Come on, let's go ride the ferris wheel, I've had enough of the rollercoasters." Jason pulls me towards the ferris wheel, and we get on.
We continue to eat and ride rides for the next couple of hours until the carnival is about to close. Jason and I stand by the entrance, trying to get in contact with Aunt Kathleen.
"There you are." I look up from my phone to see Kody walking toward us. Bruce, Tim, Dick, and Damian follow her.
"Here we are." Jason smirks.
That's when I notice the multi-colored splotches on Tim's shirt.
"Tim, what happened?" I ask.
He sighs. "Damian pelted me with snow cones." He confesses.
Jason and I snicker.
"It's not funny." He complains. "I have syrup running down my jeans." Jason and I burst out laughing.
"Alright, enough. Lucy do you have a ride?" Bruce says.
"No, I don't." I answer.
"How about you head home with us. I'll tell whoever is responsible that we have you." He suggest.
"That sounds great, thank you." I smile.
"My pleasure. Now, let's head home." Bruce walks forward, and we all follow silently.
"See, I told you he'd come around." Jason whispers in my ear.
I shiver at his hot breath, but it also feels nice. "That you did." I nod. "That you did."
