"I was hoping you'd be here."
I spun around to see Jake standing in the door way. "Oh hi." I said, hoping he was back in his formal suit.
"I just needed to come back and check out a few things like how far the forest is away from your place and checking for any hidden meds."
"Yeah sure go for it." Awkwardest silence probably in the history of awkward silences.
"So, you worked with my Dad?" He looked up, briefly then rummaged through a cupboard he'd just opened.
"I guess you could say that. Didn't really know him though. That's why they put me on the job."
"Fair enough. Would you like a coffee?"
He walked slowly towards me which made me slightly uncomfortable. Not because I was feeling threatened, but because I knew I had no control over myself around him. "Sure."
As I was pouring the cup of coffee, he stopped his investigations and walked towards the kitchen bench. He sat down slowly and sat his tanned, muscular arms on the bench. I quickly glanced up into his rich, chocolate brown eyes, as dark as the coffee I was pouring. He caught my glance and I went back to staring at the coffee.
I passed him his coffee gently across the bench, our hands touch and we exchanged slight glances. "Thank you."
"So, remind me how long you've been in the force for?"
He fiddled with the spoon. "I think it must be 3 years now. I joined when I was 25."
So that made him 28. Eight years older than me...was that too much of an age gap? My thoughts were running wild. I could not control myself. Just today, I thought, then I'd never think of him again.
"Mmm. And you've lived here your whole life?" I said, stirring my coffee.
He looked up, staring directly into my eyes, which made my stomach flip. "You know, we don't have to do this."
A lump formed in my throat. "Do what?" I said croakily.
"Small talk. You know, whatever happened the other night, I'm sorry if you regret it."
"I don't understand." I lied.
"Of course you do. We had a great time. If you can even remember anything."
"N-n-no I don't sorry..." My voice faded as he reached his hand across the bench to touch mine. "Jake, you know we shouldn't, you could get fired if anyone found out."
He stood up and walked around to me. He wrapped his hands around my waist and whispered in my ear, "That's why they won't find out."
His hands brushed up and down my stomach. I was enjoying it, I mustn't lie. And I had lost all control whatsoever. Connor wasn't even in my mind at this point. I tilted my head gently to the side, hoping he would get the memo. He did. I sighed as his lips brushed the side of my neck.
I couldn't take it any longer, I turned to face him and we indulged in a heavenly kiss. His lips were as soft as marshmallows and as warm as the morning sunlight shining through the windows. He tasted like coffee and trouble.
I pulled away, gasping for air. "Upstairs." I whispered. He carried me, somehow, upstairs and into my room. I kissed his collarbones deftly and hurriedly undid his light blue uniform.
"You make my heart race." He said as he laid my down on my bed.
I smiled. "Not as fast as mine is racing right now." He gently pulled my flowing white top over my head to reveal my lacy black bra. He looked down at me and smiled hungrily which made me nearly faint.
"Slow," I murmured, "I want this to last."
He laughed. "I don't like coffee."
I sat up abruptly. "You what?"
He laughed again. "I said, I don't like coffee. I just asked for one so that I could talk to you."
I smiled. At the time, that seemed like something worth swooning over, I should have known better though. A man who doesn't like coffee is always trouble.
