Chapter 6

The sun rose to meet her just as she got out of bed moving to take a cold morning shower. Her image in the mirror looked better today as her eyes looked more lively and her face seemed brighter or it could be that the sun's rays flooding through the window of the bathroom casting a sort of golden light in the bathroom.

Finally done with her morning shower and staring at her image in the mirror, she moved into the bedroom. Sitting down on the bed she began running the towel through her wet hair gently and almost gingerly doing her best with her only working hand making sure she didn't touch the still sore part of her head.

Her mind strayed as she tried to search her mind for anything, any memory at all but all she did was draw up a blank. The further she probed her mind the more it left her a pounding headache.

"I'm not sure that's how we dry hair" Rhoda's voice came from the door making her jump.

"Sorry, you seemed lost in thought to hear me knocking" Rhoda said from her place peeking behind the door.

"It's okay" she said to assure her.

"So can I come in now?"

"Of course"

Rhoda walked towards her,"Mind if I help you?"

She looked at Rhoda not understanding her.

"You know with your hair?"

"Oh okay" she handed the towel over to her.

Rhoda was done in no time pulling her hair into a loose ponytail.

"Come on downstairs, we've got breakfast then we head to church"

She followed Rhoda down where Daniel and the little girl were waiting at the table. They seemed to be the first people at the table each time there was food.

Mrs Asamoah was missing from the table she noticed. Rhoda moved to sit right opposite Daniel leaving her standing at the bottom of the stairs.

She nearly fell over when a little figure hugged her legs. She looked down to see the little girl looking up at her with a smile while holding her legs.

"Doreen! That was not right. You could have knocked her over. Go on, apologize to the lady" Rhoda reprimanded her.

Doreen's smile fell, "I'm sorry Miss, I didn't want you to fall"

She couldn't help it when a smile grew on her face,"It's okay"

The little girl perked at her and beamed with a smile. Suddenly she grabbed her hand and started dragging her towards the table, before halting.

"I want you to sit by me....please?" Doreen whispered.

She shrugged,"Sure"

Finally she sat down at the table with Doreen in between her and Rhoda as they waited for Mrs. Asamoah to bring out the food.

Daniel stared out the window as they waited for the food. He didn't really like the fact that she was sitting at the table and to top it off Doreen actually wanted to sit with her when she had always sat with him.

That really ticked him off. Jealousy reared its head.

"Day dreaming on a Sunday morning?" His moms voice drew him out of his reverie.

"You would think he's going to do the preaching today" Rhoda teased.

"Not funny" he said

Rhoda shrugged,"I think it is"
