Pressing the end button she slipped the phone into her purse and smiled feeling part of her job done. She prayed everything will be successful for the project unveiling tomorrow and for the little project she’d just planned.

Her phone beeped again, she took it out and read the caller ID, it was her wedding planner. Had it not been for her constant reminder each time, she was sure to have given up planning her wedding already. So much planning was going on for an event that was going to last for at most a total of four hours. A total waste she thought.

“Hello” she said and waited for the famous planner to flood her with questions. She was renowned for flawless wedding decorations across the country that had people rushing to acquire her services and not just ordinary people, she only worked for the top and influential people like the president’s niece and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources daughter. How did Rain know this? The woman had subjected her to a twenty five minute autobiography lecture the last time she came late to one of such meetings.

The woman launched into questions which made Rain smile at being able to predict her move, “Where are you? You do know it’s almost 10am right? And when you were supposed to be here at nine in the morning”

“I’m sorry; I had to take care of something”

“Is it connected to your wedding?”

She sighed, “No, but it’s equally important”

“You better get here right now miss, before I call your fiancé”

She laughed at that, it seemed as though she were a child who needed to be scolded, “Please do, maybe he can do half the job, I need a break too”

“Miss Mills” that wasn’t the wedding planner, it was Getty, their house help her laughter died, she could detect the warning in her voice, the woman was like a mother to her, there was no way she would ignore her, “Okay I’m coming” she drove back home to find the wedding planner busy scribbling something in a notebook whilst checking her time. Nessa sat in a sofa across her, legs crossed and flipped through her phone.

She went to sit down grudgingly and folded her arms spending the next hour picking colours she thought she’d already picked before and having her final measurements for the gown, they’d picked for her, by they, she meant her aunt and the wedding planner. She sat quietly enduring an hour of picking things she thought would just take thirty minutes.

Two coloured cards were raised in front of her, “Which one do you prefer?”

“Violet” she said looking at the blue and violet cards before her. The last time they’d met she was quite sure she had picked a colour”

The planner looked at the cards and looked at her, “Violet?”
Did she not hear her? “Violet” she repeated.

“There is no violet here Miss”

“”But you are holding it” she protested pointing to the card.

“But this is lavender”

She looked at the woman carefully as Nessa laughed seemingly at something on her phone, but Rain wasn’t fooled, “Oh really, so what’s the difference?”
Her aunt stepped in, “Lavender it is” cutting the planner off from making any more comment about violet and lavender. “Okay I think we are done for today” the planner said closing her blue notebook.

She shot up at that, “Finally, would you all kindly excuse me” not waiting for an answer, she got out of the house, got into her car and drove off.

Putting finishing touches to the work, he sighed. Hopefully it would be perfect. He had just placed it out on the table waiting for it to dry when he heard footstep approaching, he jumped off his stool and approached the door. He was back at the orphanage, not that he had any work to do there but some personal business had brought him there.

Honestly, he was beginning to like working at this orphanage than the garage, even though the work and preparation to be done at the orphanage had been summed up the day before when they’d met with Pastor Aaron. They’d finally finished with it. The hall of the orphanage was quite a peaceful place for him to work he’d noticed and so wanted to take advantage of it.

He stopped at the door when he saw it was Rain.

“Hey” he finally spoke up, “What are you doing here?” she looked up before looking behind her in the direction of the administration building of the orphanage, “Had to take care of something, you?” she climbed the stairs to the doors where he stood.

“You could say the same thing” he said looking at her she was addressed in royal blue long sleeved shirt over a black skirt. Though simple she looked anything but simple to him. Even the way she walked was sophisticated. She placed a handkerchief she held on the top of the stairs and sat on it crossing her stretched out legs at the ankles.

“How is the family?”

“They are okay, you can visit them sometime”

“Will do that sometime  when I can catch my breath”

He sat down next to her not bothering to clean the space he sat, “I’ve been meaning to ask a question”

“She turned to look at him, “Okay what is it about?”

“Remember when I brought Fred’s car home and fixed it?” she nodded so he continued, “I’d given him a lift earlier and he had been talking about a woman carrying his child and that woman was obviously not you...”

Rains gaze intensified on him making him wonder if he shouldn’t have brought it up in the first place, before she quickly blinked and gave a small smile. “Yeah there was an issue of that sort, a sort of misunderstanding but we have it all cleared out now”

“That’s good; I wanted to know if everything was okay with you guys”

Her keys juggled as she played with it, “What if it wasn’t, my relationship with Fred I mean, would you glue everything back into shape?”

He groaned mentally, he really did miss her nagging presence, only she besides his mom, would ask questions that made him feel like he’d being pushed to the edge of a cliff, answer wrongly and you are going down but since he met Rain, it seems that role belonged solely to her now.

“You know it only made us fight each time we were around each other” she said.

What? “Did I say that aloud?” he asked mortified.

She laughed, “You did, you said you miss my nagging presence. And you can’t take it back. By the way I didn’t know my presence nagged you so much”

“But I thought apologized for it”

She laughed showing she had been teasing, “I know, wouldn’t it be nice to know that Rhoda’s little brother can be emotional too and he actually miss people too”

He laughed too all be it with much effort. The laugh sounded weird to him, it sounded like he’d been forced to laugh. What was she doing to him? No he had to rephrase that, what was he doing to himself?

“Oh yeah, I forgot, Nessa will be here later”

He looked confused, “Why?”

“She has to get the place ready for tomorrow, well I have to get going, it was good to see you Dan” she stood up picking up her handkerchief.

He stood up as well, “It was good to see you”

She started down the stairs, “I’ll see you tomorrow”

“See you tomorrow” he waited as she got into her car and waved at him before driving out of the orphanage.

To her asked question, he thought, Yes, I would do that so long as you would be happy.

Ko si se me te monka.... Stay blessed ☺☺
