If you expect a band social to be fun and games... It's more than that.
Let me say, my school's band (including color guard) has around 250 people, and half that amount can fill up a whole park.
And that's what we did.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I walked across the driveway and got into Niko's mom's car. After a quick hello, we were on our way to the park where the social will be held. The post on Facebook said it would last from 3 pm to about 7 pm. Thank The Lord that it was cool today.
Since the competition yesterday, there was only negative comments about the sun. I couldn't blame them, that was the hottest we ever experienced.
The way there was a comfortable silence, everyone just lost in their thoughts. Trees and stores rolled by, and soon enough, we were at the park.
The park was beside a neighborhood and was fairly large. There was a path for joggers and there was also a lake. Niko and I walked along the path until we were beside the lake. Over there, we found a few people that came for the social.
I didn't know any of their names, but they were kicking a soccer ball around.
"Nope. " I turned to Niko. "Soccer balls, or any ball relating to sports, seems to find its way towards my head someone." As I turned, the ball was kicked high and had hit the ground in front of me. Niko kicked it back.
"How bout we move..." I said, tense. He nodded, and I led the way to where a pavilion was. One of our drum majors were there setting up some chips. A while later, we were sitting on the benches with chips in our mouths just watching the lake. Niko was texting Anthony asking when he will come and I just lied down on the bench, with my head on the arm.
I stared at the sky, watching the clouds pass by and a shout woke me up from my daze.
"Watch out!"
My eyes shot wide open and a soccer ball flew above us.
Don't they know how to kick soccer balls... I looked at the direction of the shout and saw Rose.
"Oh hey Grace! We're about to play a game! Come join?"
I nodded and jogged up the small hill along with Niko.
I saw an inner circle and outer circle of people, all sitting and facing the center on the grass. Everyone had one partner, and one partner sat behind the other.
"Okay!" It was our drum major who spoke. "So this is what happens. There is always one person with out a partner, and that person will have to call three names. Those three people will have to try to get to them, but those three people's partners will hold them back. If that partner fails to do so, he or she will be the one without a partner, and that is how the game goes."
I nodded, understanding what she was saying, and when I looked up, I saw Anthony and Josh. They've become partners, and Niko and I have become partners.
The first person to go was a junior, he called three names I didn't recognized and those people crawled to get to him.
"Benjamin! No!" Someone yelled. I recognized that name from one of the three names called. A person shot out from the outer circle, and tackled him the person I assumed as Benjamin.
The tackle-er was on Ben's back, and yet he still was able to move. Someone got to the junior first though. Ben and his attacker went back to their spots, and brushed the grass out of their hair.
The next three names were called, "Niko, Ashlee, Anthony."
I looked up and noticed Niko was already halfway there. I lunged at him, but only caught his legs. Soon enough, he got out my grasp and and made it to his new partner.
I straighten myself out, and looked around to whose name I would call.
"Um..." I said, unsure of myself. "Chloe, Josh, and... Benjamin?"
My eyes widen as Ben's partner sat on him, and everyone started laughing. Chloe got to me first. She's a trumpet player a few grades higher than me and she's pretty awesome to talk to.
The game went on, and many things had actually happened:
Chloe sat on me, and also strangled me.
I became Anthony's partner along the way, and when my name was called, he held onto my shirt. Doing so, he pulled my shirt too much that it showed almost my whole bra. I punched him afterwards. (A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.)
I gave up from running from him cause I was mildly traumatized, and he just held/hugged every time my name got called.
Benjamin eventually got another partner... And lost a shoe doing so.
I tore Anthony's shirt.
And I figured out that band people in my school tend to get really competitive in small games like this.
Especially me.
And that, is what to be expected. Going out of your comfort zone, but having fun doing so.
*****
I should be sleeping... But yeah! True story like always, and I didn't add much more cause that's basically what only happened... Like 80 people came, but people basically broke off in their own groups.
So... Yeah. (Yep... Haha.)
