The lights flickered again, for the third time that night.
"Are you okay, Artie?" Alfred said, looking over at the heavily pregnant omega. Arthur was about to burst, and therefore, literally anything got on his nerves.
"Of course I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?"
"I dunno. I just wanna make sure." Alfred looked from Arthur to the lights, then back to Arthur. "I'm nervous."
"Why?" Arthur asked, gently putting down the book he was reading on his belly. "You don't think-"
"It's crazy storming outside, and you're overdue. If the baby comes-"

"You need to calm down, Al. The baby's only two days overdue, and I think they're quite content where they are right now." The omega chuckled softly. "And if they do decide to come, the storm might be over by then. Birth can take hours, we could probably ride out the storm and still get to the hospital with plenty of time." He paused for a sec, watching as the lights dimmed. "And there's always the possibility of a home birth."
"Arthur, I am not a doctor for a reason. I am not qualified to do doctor-y things like heart surgery or helping bring a child into the world. That's too much responsibility for me. What if I drop it?"
"So many things that could go wrong with delivering a child and you choose to back up your statement with 'what if I drop it?'"
Alfred laughed quietly, as the lights flickered and turned off completely. He sighed.
"I'll go and light the candles."
Arthur smiled, although it was too dark to see. "You do that, love." Arthur sighed angrily. "Now I can't see the book."

Alfred chuckled, lighting the various candles around the room. Arthur watched him, almost judgingly.
"Not that one love, the smell of tea mixes with the smell of cinnamon and it's somewhat unpleasant."
Alfred smiled, capping the candle and looking back at Arthur. "Anything else I should look out for, darling?"
"Yes, don't light the rose one. I'm in no mood for rose. Violet's better, light the violet one instead."
"Picky picky. I happen to like the rose one."
"Well then, you go to lush and pick out some candles that suit rose well, then we'll talk."
"Artie, it's storming and the whole city's out of power."
"Yes, you're right Al." Arthur smiled, resting a hand on his bursting stomach. "The baby just kicked again."
Alfred couldn't help but smile at his mate.
"The storm sounds like it's picking up." Arthur said, looking at the window. His green eyes were illuminated by the soft candlelight.
"I don't like this." Alfred said, sitting down next to Arthur, cuddling up to the  omega's warm side. Arthur rest his head on Alfred's shoulder, opening his book again.

"What'cha readin'?" Alfred asked, a deeper, almost Texan accent mixed in with his slurred words.
"A book."
"Haha, smartass. Any book in particular?"
"Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince."
Alfred smirked, gently closing the book that was in Arthur's hands.
"Why don't you stop reading and we do something fun?"
"Nah."
"Do you like Potter better than me?" Alfred said, putting on a horrible British accent.
"Your Draco Malfoy impersonation is atrocious, Alfred. I don't know if I can marry someone who does such a horrid accent."
Alfred laughed, picking up Arthur's hands and brushing his fingers gently along the omega's golden ring. "Too late. You're stuck with me."
Arthur laughed and kissed him.

Alfred woke up to Arthur's heavy breathing.
The alpha blinked bleary-eyed, grabbing for his glasses and staring concernedly at his mate. The lights were still out, and Alfred swore loudly when he realized he'd fallen asleep with candles lit.
"Ally? Al-" Arthur mumbled, still mostly asleep.
"Artie, are you okay?" Alfred said, brushing hair out of his omega's tired emerald eyes. "Shit Artie, you're really hot."
"Mmmh... thanks..."
"No, I mean you're overheating. I'll get you a cold cloth, don't worry, I'll be right back." He paused quickly as he got up. "Not that you're not hella attractive."

Just as Alfred finished dampening a towel, Arthur screamed.
The alpha turned tail, bolting to the bedroom as fast as he could. "Artie-!"
"Get more towels, Al. Not the good towels though. I think my water just broke."
"How are you so calm?! Shit! I thought contractions lasted hours beforehand?! Shouldn't we have had some heads up?! This is not good- Shit! The storm's still going strong I can't drive anywhere I'm not ready for this fuck fuck fuck-"
"Al. Al. Please calm down." It was apparent that Arthur was doing his best not to scream in agony. "I'm going- I'm going to lay down, you're going to get me some Advil, and we're going to do this." He stared at his mate. "I don't really want to soil the bed."
"I'll change the sheets. I'll get you towels and painkillers, just lay down and make yourself comfortable, please." Alfred slowly backed out of the room, looking like he might pass out.
