Arthur woke up to a hand jabbing him in his side. Bolting awake, he screamed and smashed his head with Alfred's; who had been leaning over him, causing both of them to collapse onto the bed, flattening Arthur.
"A wonderful start to my morning. Thank you, Alfred." Arthur groaned.
"Sorry. I was just trying to wake you up." Alfred said, his warm breath blowing on Arthur's neck and making him tremble. Alfred seemed to notice this, and snuggled in close to Arthur's neck. Each breath made the brit shiver as he attempted to shove the much larger boy off his body.
"Al- Alfred please- I can't breathe..."
"What's the matter? Can't understand you."
"My internal organs are being compressed-"
Alfred rolled off Arthur, the brit gasping for air after being flattened.
"You're... an idiot."
"Thanks."
"What on earth did you feel was so important you had to wake me up?"
"If I said because it's Christmas Eve, would you be mad?"
Arthur smiled. "You're an idiot."
"You've already said that." Alfred laughed, jumping back on top of Arthur and kissing him passionately, playing with the smaller man's upper lip. Arthur audibly choked from the sudden face assault, his face bright red when Alfred finally pulled away. The American smirked at the brit he'd pinned down. Arthur opened his mouth to say something, but his stomach rumbled loudly, interrupting any thoughts.
"Get off me, you twit! I need to get something to eat..."
"Oh right! I made you breakfast, I wanted to wake you up before it got cold. That's what I was doing, before you distracted me."
"I distracted you?"
Alfred reluctantly let the Briton up, as Arthur limped over to the kitchen. He could smell freshly cooked eggs and bacon, a plate set out for him on the table.
"I hope it's okay. I didn't know how to make tea, so I hope you don't mind if you have to make it yourself." Alfred said, his hands resting on the Brit's hips. They surely looked like a loving couple to the neighbours who were staring through the kitchen window.
"This is very sweet, Alfred. Thank you."
Alfred sat down at the table across from Arthur, his bright smile lighting up the room.
"How is it?"
"It's good, Alfred. Thank you, but didn't you eat this exact meal yourself?"
"Well, I've been told that my taste buds are fucked up and that I'll eat anything, but whatever."
Arthur smiled as Alfred stared into his eyes dreamily.
"Hey."
"What?"
"I love it when you smile. I want to make you smile more."
"Corny."
"The corniest. And you love it."
"How do you that?"
"I found your copy of Romeo and Juliet in your bedside table."
"Why the hell were you rooting around in my bedside table?!"
"Reasons, Arthur. Reasons." The American smirked. "The things I found in there..."
Arthur stood up abruptly. "This conversation is over-"
"I've never seen so many rom-coms on disc. You're very lonely, aren't you Artie?"
"I said the conversation is over, Alfred. Kindly do yourself a favour and shut up."
The American whimpered. "But how am I supposed to give you your Christmas present if I'm all shut up?"
"That makes almost no logical sense, Alfred."
"Wait here! I'll be right back!"
Arthur chuckled as the energetic American got up and bolted out of the room. Admittedly, Alfred was very cute.
Alfred returned quickly, clutching a nicely wrapped present in red wrapping paper in his hands. It was held together by a bright green ribbon that looked like it might have been in a war, the way it crumpled the paper. He'd obviously wrapped it himself.
He smiled brightly as he handed it to Arthur. "Here. I wasn't really sure what to get you, but I hope you like them. I've heard it's a fairly decent series."
Arthur smiled softly at his childish excitement. "Can I open it now?"
"Yeah! Of course!"
Arthur smiled at Alfred as he carefully tore away at the (slightly mangled) wrapping paper to reveal two books, titled 'True Believer' and 'At first sight'. Judging by their covers, they were stereotypical American romance novels, the type that Arthur wanted to buy, but only ever did off amazon when he was drunk. It was actually very nice for someone to know what you wanted and actually have the thought to buy it for you.
"I saw the books and thought of you. You like that kind of stuff, right?"
"Yeah. That's very sweet of you, Alfred. Thank you. I look forward to reading them." Arthur grinned, staring into Alfred's icy blue eyes for a while before slowly getting up and speaking again.
"You wait here. It's my turn to give you your gift."
Arthur strolled out of the kitchen, quickly grabbing a box delicately wrapped in light blue wrapping paper and decorated with little candy canes from in his closet, before quickly turning on his heel and spinning back around into the kitchen.
He plopped the present into Alfred's hands just before sitting back down in his own seat. The box was slightly bigger than the package Alfred had given Arthur, and Arthur was sure the American was feeling slightly self conscious about the fact.
"Here. I hope you like it! I ordered it offline so there's no returns."
"You're straight to the point. I like it." Alfred smiled.
"Shut up and open it!"
Alfred smiled, starting to tear at the wrapping paper, much less organized than Arthur had. Inside the box was two hockey jerseys, one decorated with the American team and the other with the English team. Alongside the jerseys was a $20 steam gift card, as Arthur knew Alfred had a habit of playing video games. The American lit up, childlike excitement eminent on his face.
The two exchanged a gentle hug, awkward at first, increasing in passion.
"Al-"
"Artie."
"You're crushing my ribs-"
"You're awfully breakable, aren't you?"
"Yes-"
Alfred let up his grip on the smaller man, holding onto his shoulders.
"You're awfully cute, as well."
"Shut up."
"Merry Christmas to you too, Artie." Alfred whispered, kissing Arthur on the forehead.
From the corner of his eye, Arthur could glimpse his neighbours pulling the blinds down on their windows.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!
