* Blade’s POV *

Getting ganged by people who you call your family always happens to me. It’s like I’m not even welcome on having my own opinions as others make me feel I’m not part of this. Maybe it’s because my only connection with them was my dad. If it weren’t for him, I won’t even be a legal family member as my mother wasn’t even married to him.

Or maybe I’m simply paranoid over the littlest things. It didn’t help that those people who have been going against us were already locked up in prison. I don’t think it would be easy for me to let go of all the paranoia before I can go out of the house alone.

My bedroom door opened and closed as I have heard movements inside my bedroom. With my head down, I was sitting on one edge of the bed and facing the wall and window with a little view of the sky. Compared to the lounge room where everyone was right now, my room was much quieter.

“You don’t have to worry, bro.” Judging by the sound of the man’s voice, it was Slade. Perhaps Bailey had sent him to explain things and get me to listen. After all the emotional thoughts, I’d still have to give in. “She’s in good hands.”

“Still.” I uttered. “Everything that happened to us lately has all been unexpected and I didn’t think it would end that easy.”

“It sure didn’t end that easy, Blade.” He uttered, sincerely. “We have lost lives, but we’re still working it out as a family. Don’t feel that your opinion doesn’t count because everyone needs your guidance, being the oldest one out. But don’t forget to have some fun.”

“It’s not that easy. I need to protect them being the oldest one out.” I uttered.

“No, you don’t have to.” He countered. “I know you didn’t have an exciting childhood memories and even teen years, but this is the time you should focus on that. It’s never too late, Blade, and you need to be happy.”

“It was an adventure – learning how to shoot a gun at an early age.” I uttered, rolling my eyes.

“That’s the past. You should stop living the past, Blade.” He told me, but I had to argue.

As I turned around to meet Slade’s gaze, I was surprised that it wasn’t him, but Xander, all dressed in white.

“Please don’t scream.” He uttered, waving his hands, but it was too late.

Screaming to the top of my lungs, the guys came inside as he moved to one corner, trying to hide out like people could see him.

“Let me guess, flying cockroach?” Slade chuckled as Chase joined him.

Shifting my gaze towards Xander, I nodded my head, weakly; opposite of what Xander was telling me. His palm met his face the minute I gave in calling him a flying cockroach, and then he sighed.

“I’m not a disgusting cockroach.” He glared, and then pouted. “Stop calling me one. After I saved your lives, I’m just an insect to you guys. I’ll tell Bailey, and you’ll probably receive an earful from her.” He uttered, and then he was gone, disappearing in the air.

“Xander, we didn’t mean to.” Slade uttered, as he turned around in the room, possibly wishing Xander could still hear him. “And John started the trend. Your best friend. Bailey’s boyfriend. Shouldn’t he get the lecture from Bailey?” He chuckled. When Xander didn’t react or made his presence known, Slade stopped the laughter as all three of us were wandering around the room, still waiting for him to come back.

“Xander, yoohoo!” Chase called. “Come on and some sparky entrance.”

“What’s a sparky entrance?” I asked.
