* Bailey’s POV *
“Are you sure you want to do this?” John asked me for the nth time as we headed towards a café we were supposed to meet Jill at. She agreed to talk today after John called him, and even the girl was proper surprised with what I wanted, especially knowing how much I was scared of her since, because of a mistaken identity.
Thinking for a bit, John watched as I shook off that nervous state that was building inside of me, before I nodded as he sighed. “I’m not forcing you, baby. We can do this in your own time. Jill is fine, even if she misses her friend, but she can wait.”
“I’m ready.” I stated. Well, I did face Carla today so I guess Jill was an easy peasy. “But don’t leave me.” He nodded.
John opened the door as I waited on the other side – he wanted to open up the door for me, that’s why. Once I was out of the door, I’ve attacked John into the tightest embrace I could ever give.
He chuckled while his hands traveled up and down my arms, soothing me. “You’re shivering, baby. Are you 100% sure you want to do this?”
“It’s cold.” I uttered, though in reality it was summer in Sydney – I guess that’s how nervous I was as John chuckled some more, tightening his grip towards me, and a couple of minutes later, he had let go and led me inside the café.
When we got there, Jill was already enjoying her cup of coffee in one corner. Our eyes met as she nervously stood up from her seat, it was as if she hesitated whether to come up or just wait until John and I reached her, and she went for the second option. Perhaps thinking she didn’t want to startle me even more.
Closing the gap between Jill and I, I stopped halfway, pushing John away. “I’m good. I mean, can you give us sometime… alone?” John’s eyes widen, but he agreed after I told him that he could stay in the same place, not just in the same table.
With a heavy breath, I marched towards Jill’s table and she offered me a chair. We were greeted by an awkward silence for about ten minutes since I’ve gotten there. We only started to talk when John had dropped by and ordered me my favourite coffee, giving me a kiss of encouragement, possibly noticing that Jill and I haven’t even started on the talk.
“He’s a really sweet guy. I’m so glad you two finally ended up together. I could never see John with anyone, but you.” Jill told me, smiling.
“Thank you.” I uttered. “He’s really a special boy.” I told her as Jill agreed.
“I don’t really know what to say, to be honest.” Jill admitted, heaving a sigh.
“I know.” I countered. “I’m sorry, Jill. I know John would never trust anyone that has done something to me, which only means you’re really Jill and you’re not someone else…”
“Aww, I know what you mean. Honestly speaking, if our roles were reversed, I’d probably act like you do, so I totally understand what you’re going through.” Jill explained. “It was really fine, Bailey. I know what you’ve been going through and I hated how I couldn’t even help you through those times. But I’m glad John has never given up on you.”
“I’m your friend and friends wait for each other. John said you’ve been trying your best, and just like him, I don’t want to force you so hearing that you wanted to meet me up today was all a surprise.” She smiled as I started to tear up.
Everyone around me tried their best to put up with my feelings, and yet, some of them were pushed away because I thought wrong about them. Even John, but I was sure glad that he never gave up on us, or I wouldn’t know where I would be right now. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be this Bailey.
