Morgan's POV

When I got home from practice I walked into the kitchen and saw my mom sitting at the kitchen table with another can of beer in her hand.

"Where the hell were you?" She asks as she slams the can of beer on the table.

"Practice, remember? I told you that." I say back.

All I wanted was to have someone who would take care of me and love me. I wanted my mom to actually act like a mom. I needed someone who I could talk to about my problems.

But I have no one.

I grew up alone and afraid of being forgotten. But I wasn't afraid anymore because I was already forgotten by my own mother.

I wished she wasn't the way she was. I wish my mom loved me and cared for me just like every mom does. But she does drugs. She drinks. She does the things a mom shouldn't do.

I watched as my mom stood up and walked towards the door.

"I'm going out." Is all she says before she slams the door closed leaving me all alone.

Like always.

*

After school the next day, I walked back home. I was exhausted. It was just another long day.

I grabbed my soccer stuff and walked out the front door and started to walk to the practice field.

I thought about my mom.

I wish she loved me. I wish she cared about me and supported me. I was angry at her for leaving me in the dust while she goes on doing god knows what.

I had to fend for myself. I had to take care of myself. I knew I had to get a job soon because my moms bank account was almost out of money.

When I got to the soccer field, I laced up my boots and waited for the rest of the team to show up.

Then Coach O'Hara showed up and I felt that all my worries had gone away.

Right away, she told us to do drills and like last time she watched me. Every time I had the ball I could feel her eyes on me and every time I wanted to look back and stare into her beautiful eyes but I couldn't.

She was my coach.

We were doing a scrimmage. I had the ball at my feet and I passed it right to JJ as we both charged up the field.

Once I was on top of the box, JJ crossed it over and I jumped up for the header. Then, I felt a sudden pain go through my head as I felt myself fall to the ground. Hard.

I squeezed my eyes shut before i slowly tilted my head and saw my other teammate, Lindsey Horan on the ground too.

We bumped heads.

The rest of the team gathered around and the only voice I could hear was Coach O'Hara.

"Everyone, make some room." She says. I slowly looked up and I saw Lindsey stand up. She was fine. Thank god she was fine.

But I felt everything around me spinning. Like I was in my own world.

"Morgan? Morgan? Are you alright?" I hear Coach O'Hara say. I feel her hand on my shoulder as she slowly helps me sit up.

She places her hand on my lower back as she helps keep my back straight. That touch sent chills running down my spine.

Then, she used her pointer finger and told me to follow it with my eyes. I was fine.

Thanks to Coach O'Hara.

I slowly got up to my feet and Coach O'Hara had a firm grip on my arm as she looked me in the eyes with a concerned expression on her face.

"Are you okay? Do you need to sit out?" She asks.

"I'm fine." I say as I shrug my shoulders. I'm pretty sure I was fine, right?

"You don't look fine. Just sit this one out, okay?" Coach O'Hara says with a small smile. I stared into her beautiful eyes and I just nodded. She walked me over to the bench and I sat down.

She handed me an ice pack and went off to continue coaching the team.

Why was she treating me so nicely? Yesterday my teammate Emily Sonnett took a hard slide tackle and Coach O'Hara continued to make her play.

But, it was different for me.

When practice was over I slowly grabbed all of my soccer stuff and started to walk to JJ's car when Coach O'Hara called my name.

"How are you feeling?" She asks as she swings her bag over her shoulder.

"Fine." I say as I look away from her.

"Are you sure?" She asks as she squeezes my shoulder in a reassuring way.

"I'm fine, really. Just sore." I say with a small smile.

"Okay, well, get some rest. Okay? I'll see you tomorrow?" Coach O'Hara says.

"I'll see you tomorrow Coach O'Hara."
