LEXIS POV
We leave the hotel early in the morning and switch cars once again before arriving at Bertha's house. I look up at the enormous two story house in awe. It was your typical white picket fence dream house. I get out of the car a few seconds after Xavier and we make our way to the front door. When we are still a couple of yards away from the porch steps the door flies open. My reflexes and years of training kick in and I get in my fighting stance. It's almost as if one minute I'm normal and the next I'm in killing mode. I see a middle aged, motherly looking woman come barreling out of the house in full speed. She sweeps Xavier into her arms and kisses his cheek.
"Oh look at you. You've grown so much since the last time I saw you." Her voice is strong and soft and warm. It makes her sound like...home. I look at Xavier and he nods, letting me know that it's safe. I right myself and the woman throws herself at me and gives me bone crushing hug. I stand stiffly before relaxing and wrapping my arms around her.
"You've turned into such a beautiful young lady. Come on, let's get you settled. I'll send Albert for the bags. Come on, hurry." She shoos us inside and shuts the door.
"Okay kids here's the drill, you may share a room but I don't want any of that stuff going on in my house you hear me? And from now on you are siblings to the public and Lexi is not Lexi anymore but Eleanor Smith and Xavier now you'll be Alexander Smith. Got it?." She instructs. Xavier and I nod. She hands us each an envelope. "Memorize this information and you are both are already enrolled in school and you start tomorrow. Now go rest and I'll take you both shopping for supplies and clothes later. I have to go to work. I'll be back before dinner." With that she leaves the house.
"Well she's not what I expected?" I turn toward Xavier.
"She pretty much raised me. My dad, being leader, was always gone and my mother died during my birth." He tells me before turning back to the envelope in his hand.
"Xavier look at me." I demand him. He tries to resist his soul mates command but he eventually turns toward me. "Tell me more about your past. Please?" I beg.
Xavier nods. "Ask me anything and I'll answer with the truth."
"Do you have a middle name?"
"Yes, it's Joseph."
"Did you have any significant girlfriends before me?" This is the question that really mattered.
"There was one. Her name is Kim. We dated for 2 years in middle school leading into high school, but it's nothing compared to what we have."
"Why did you two break up?"
"I decided to move to Richmond. She thought it was a mistake. I never told you this but before I moved there, I had weird dreams. I was on a boat every time and I would look out into the ocean and there was a person sitting on a rock. At that point she would start singing and it was like a sirens call to me. The dream would then shift and I was in a school hallway. I could only see the school name and mascot. She thought I was crazy but I knew there was something out there for me. Finally she gave me an ultimatum, leave and we were over or stay and be with her. Of course you know what I chose but I would be lying if I said she left it at that. She kept calling and trying to get me back up until she found her own soulmate."
"What did she get from all this?"
"If neither of us found our soul mates, our parents wanted us to marry."
The questions continued until it turned into a game of truth or dare. By the time Bertha gets home, Xavier is laying on the floor, using my legs as a pillow.
"Get up, we have to get you both the uniforms." Bertha says barely even coming in before walking out.
