Chapter 32: Pain's Assault

It was chaotic. The village was crashing, burning, the people dying all around me. I ran through the streets with Mirai in my arms, holding her close to me. I ran as fast as I could, evading attacks launched at me, panting as I finally reached the bunker. "Please... Take her in... I'm going to fight..." I handed Mirai to the two jonin that stood guard. "NO! MOMMY! DON'T LEAVE ME!" Mirai cried. I kneeled down and kissed her forehead, "Mommy will be back soon, you have to stay here and play with the other children, okay, baby? Mommy has to protect you and all the others." My heart shattered as I watched the tears stream down her face, "Just remember, no matter what, mommy and daddy will always love you." I turned and the one of the jonin led her in, and I heard her scream, "DON'T GO! I LOVE YOU!" I held my tears back as I ran back towards the battle, searching frantically for Kakashi.

His silver hair stood out to me and I ran to him, activating my Kazegan as I did so. I was stopped in my tracks, however, by a man with orange hair, multiple piercings and an Akatsuki cloak. "Where is the jinchuriki?" He asked bluntly. I smirked and took my fighting position, "I'm not telling you shit." He remained emotionless, "Those who resist must be eliminated." He lunged at me, but I was much faster. I quickly used my wind blade and he staggered back, but it didn't do much. He was strong, much stronger than I had expected. He threw punches at me as I blocked them. I saw that there was an enemy chakra coming towards me. Behind me. I quickly did some hand signs and slammed my hand to the ground. Bolts of lightning crashed down onto the two Pains, leaving them unconscious. I panted, and remembered Kakashi. I looked over to him fighting two other Pains. "Kashi!" I screamed as one of the Pains used his pulling force, and Kakashi grabbed onto a loose pipe, holding on for dear life. I ran and jumped high, but I knew I couldn't fool those Rinnegan eyes. In midair, I made four shadow clones and they all jumped at Pain, forcing him to let go of Kakashi and focus on them. As he fought my clones, I ran to Kakashi, helping him up. I could feel his depleting chakra level. "Katsi..." He breathed as he saw it was me, and stood up. "What are you doing here? Where's Mirai?" "I came to fight, to defend my village and my family. She's safe, in the bunker." He nodded and we took our fighting stances as Pain defeated my last clone. "Wind blade!" "Chidori!" We screamed, but those Rinnegan eyes were more powerful than my Kazegan and Kakashi's Sharingan. Pain lifted me high into the air with one hand and was pushing Kakashi away from him. "NO!" I heard a bloodcurdling scream from Kakashi as I plummeted to the ground. "I'm sorry. I love you,"  Was all I could think before I slammed into a rock and everything went black.

*Kakashi's POV*

I helplessly watched my wife hit the ruptured ground and slump over. There was nothing I could do while being forced back by Pain. I could still see her chakra in my chakra stone. I didn't know how she had survived that, but the only thing that mattered was that she had. My blood boiled with my rage as I charged at Pain with my chidori, Choji and Choza showing up to help out. Pain forced me back and I fell to the ground. He approached me, but my life was spared by Choji and Choza hurling at him, boulder-sized and spinning quickly. They had chained him and I lunged at him with my chidori, but the other Pain threw himself in front of him, my chidori piercing him instead. I was blasted back, buried under countless rocks and rubble. There was no way out. Choji and Choza were lying face down on the ground. My ears were pounding as I saw Pain pick up a nail and launch it at my head. I quickly and unnoticeably used my Kamui so it wouldn't hit me, although I threw my head back as if it did, slumping over motionlessly, so Pain thought I was dead. He seemed satisfied and I heard him leave, opening my eyes. I saw Katsumi and Choji stir, getting up, although they were in pain. Choji yelled as he saw his father, dead. I had to save them. Katsumi looked over at me with wide eyes and I knew she was running over to me to help me, but I knew I was done for. I couldn't speak. With my Sharingan, I saw the other Pain use his last missile, aiming it at them. Choji grabbed Katsumi, who was screaming for me and trying to run back. I would save her, I would save Choji. I would protect her and my village with my life. With my dying breath, I mustered up the last of my chakra and used my Kamui on the missile. I knew that she was safe. I saw a bright light and what my life had been like. "Obito... Rin... Katsi... Mirai..." I thought painfully. I heard my love scream for me faintly one last time as I slipped away.
