I opened my eyes to the morning sun. I groaned as I put a pillow over my head to block the sunlight shining into my eyes. "Good morning, sleepyhead," I heard and I bolted up. "Kashi! You startled me!" I exclaimed as I looked over to him. He chuckled, "Sorry, I didn't mean to," He kissed my forehead, "I wanted to surprise you." I looked up at him, confused. "Why?" He laughed. "Don't be silly!" I raised an eyebrow, "I really don't know what you're talking about." He looked at me, smiling, and kissed my forehead once again. "Happy birthday, sweetheart," He whispered into my ear. I had completely forgotten my birthday. "Don't tell me you forgot," He chuckled. "I did, actually," I answered honestly. "Well, I want to treat you to a few surprises today, and I know you don't like surprises, but you'll just have to deal with it," He told me and took my hand, leading me to the kitchen, where he had a table full of chocolate chip pancakes, my favorite, tea and juice, dumplings and dangos, and a cake with a candle in it's top. I hugged Kakashi, "Kashi, it was so sweet of you to do this, you shouldn't have. Thank you," I kissed him sweetly. "It's no problem," He grinned and we devoured our breakfast. "Kashi, these pancakes are the best thing I've ever eaten," I groaned happily and he chuckled. "I'm really glad you like them, I worked really hard on them." I smiled at him as I ate the heavenly pancakes. He was a very good cook.

"Okay, time for you to make a wish," He said after we had finished with the delicious breakfast. "I thought you didn't believe in making wishes," I chuckled and he shrugged, "I wanted you to have a nice and normal 21st birthday," He smiled sweetly and I kissed his cheek before turning to the cake. "Did you bake it yourself?" I asked curiously. "You know it," He smiled proudly. "I got so lucky with you," I grinned to him before I closed my eyes to make a wish. After I had thought of something, I opened my eyes and blew out the candle. Or, at least, that's what I was expecting to happen.

Instead of the flame of the candle dying out from me blowing on it, a large gust of wind escaped my lips, turning into a miniature tornado that started to rampage around my apartment, completely destroying everything. I quickly covered my mouth with my hands as my eyes widened. The tornado-like being subsided, and I looked up at Kakashi, my hands still covering my mouth. "Katsi... Your eyes..." He breathed. I ran to my room to see myself in the mirror to find out what Kakashi was talking about. He stayed close as he followed me. I looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes widened even more.

Instead of the blue eyes I usually had, my eyes were now pitch black and sparkling. I gasped as I examined them closer. As I looked at myself, the blackness in my eyes retreated and my blue eyes returned. I looked at Kakashi, who looked just as shocked and confused as I felt. "What... Was that?" I whispered. "I think we should see Lord Third," He answered, and I knew he was right. I glanced at my ruined apartment as we made our way to the door. I sighed as I thought about cleaning it. I looked at the cake Kakashi had made me, which somehow was the only thing that wasn't destroyed. "Kakashi, wait!" I yelled before he could lead me out, making him turn around. "I want to taste your cake," I grinned. He laughed, "Okay, but don't blow me away when you say that you're blown away by my amazing baking skills." I giggled at his pun. He cut two slices of cake for us. Chocolate cake and vanilla frosting, my favorite! "Kashi, this is so good! I'm going to have to ask you to bake cakes more often," He chuckled, "Don't get cocky." We finished our cake and finally went to see Lord Third.

"Do you want me to go in with you?" Kakashi asked me as we approached the Hokage's office. "Sure," I answered. I knocked at the door and we entered after hearing Lord Third telling us to come in. "Sarutobi-sama," We both said simultaneously. "Ah, Kakashi, Katsumi, to what do I owe the pleasure?" He greeted us. "Sarutobi-sama, today is my birthday, and I wanted to blow out the candle on a cake, and instead of doing that, a tornado-like wind escaped my mouth, ruining half of my apartment. Also, my eyes turned black. I didn't know how to explain it, so I came straight to you." He stood up and looked at me, "I suppose you now know..." He started. "Know what?" Kakashi asked. Lord Third sighed. "It's the Kekkei Genkai of your clan. It is known as the Kazegan." I stared at him. "No, that can't be true. I didn't know my clan, but my father didn't have a Kekkei Genkai. I asked him about it." He shook his head. "Your father wanted to protect you from the truth. Everybody in your clan had this Kekkei Genkai. It is awoken when an Abe clan member turns twenty-one years old. Your father didn't want you to know about it at that young age." I was angry. "Why not? It was inevitable for me to find out about it!" He looked at me grimly, "I think he was expecting to live longer. I'm sure he would have told you once you were older, but he didn't have enough time, unfortunately." Kakashi looked over at me. I was trembling with anger as the Hokage continued, "I guess it's time for you to know the truth about your clan and your father." I clenched my fists. "What about my father?"  He looked sad, as if he didn't want me to know. "The Kazegan is one of the most powerful Kekkei Genkai known. Not only can you control highly powerful winds and use wind jutsu that nobody else can use, you can also use a very powerful genjutsu and have high sensory abilities, much like the Sharingan. However, this much power comes with a price." He paused. "The Kazegan triggers a deadly blood disease in it's users. Your clan's compound was bombed because many people agreed that they didn't want the disease to spread onto their own families." I was shaking. I was sick and my death was inevitable. My whole clan was murdered because they had a disease. "Is there no cure?" I asked hoarsely. "The Abe clan was very close to finding an antidote until the compound was bombed. Unfortunately, there was nothing left of the research. Your father couldn't do the job because he was not skilled in medical training." He stopped for a minute, before he said, "I know how hard this must be to hear, but you deserve to know."

"Your father wasn't killed in action. He died from the disease."

I was speechless. Some stupid illness took my father away from me, not the war. My father was still a hero, but not like I had thought all these years. "Is there nothing I can do about the disease?" My voice cracked. Tears stung my eyes, but I would not let them fall. He thought about this, staring out the window. "I suppose there is one way," He finally said, "But it is very risky. You could die earlier than you're destined to." I contemplated his words. I looked over at Kakashi. His visible eye was wide and sad.

"I'll do it," I answered. I'm dying either way. "Very well," Lord Third sighed, "I assume you know of the Legendary Sannin?" Kakashi and I nodded. "You must seek them out, specifically Tsunade. She is the best in medical ninjutsu. Perhaps she can help you. She and the other two Sannin are in the Stone at the moment. You may look for them if you decide to." I nodded, "Thank you, Sarutobi-sama," Kakashi and I bowed. "Good luck, I hope everything goes well," The Hokage said as we left.

"I'm so sorry," Kakashi said quietly as we went home. He took my hand into his, "Are you okay?" "I don't know," I replied. "We'll get through this. Together," Kakashi reassured me, "I'll do whatever I can for you, I'll stay with you. And I'll go with you to the Stone. I promise." I couldn't hold my tears in anymore. We had already arrived at my door as I started to bawl. Kakashi ushered me in and pulled me to the couch, hugging me tightly, his hand running through my hair. "It's going to be okay," He tried to calm me down. "No, it won't!" I sobbed, "I'm going to die! And there's almost nothing I can do, nothing!" My breath hitched, but I would not give in. Not now. Kakashi cupped my face and wiped away my tears with his thumbs. "Katsi, we're going to see Tsunade. She can help, she's the best medical nin out there. I'm sure she'll find a way. It's just another challenge for us to overcome. You just can't give up." He hugged me tighter as I kept crying. This was too much information to take in. "Will some of my birthday cake help with the tears?" He said, smiling to me. "Y-yes," I sniveled and laughed slightly. He stood up and I watched him cut the cake. He always knew how to make me feel better. I found myself thinking to my birthday wish, and hoped that it would come true.

I had wished to never lose him.
