The road was starting to lead up, towards the mountains, and it began to narrow. Everyone in the truck gradually got quieter and quieter as we realised we were heading up the mountain. I slowed down a lot as we climbed higher, and there were no cars around at all. I began to get uneasy and turned to Josh who smiled nervously at me, not saying anything. We slowly turned around a corner and came across a sign saying 'Port Val de Mosa' with images of shops and restaurants underneath the writing.
I smiled and became more hopeful, going in the direction that the sign pointed. We came out of a clearing of trees and the road that faced me was the scariest thing I had ever seen; it winded down the mountain, and there were no barriers to separate the road from the sheer drop down to the sea below. It was terrifying but beautiful at the same time.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Nervously asked George from the back.
I smiled at him in my mirror, "we need a map to get our way back, there are shops down there where we can buy one. Plus, I can't turn this truck around on this narrow road so we don't really have a choice" I said, as calmly as I could.
I eased my foot off the brake and let the truck slowly roll down the road. No one in the truck spoke, allowing me to put all my concentration on the driving. I was going fine until we turned a corner and came across a coach heading straight at us. The road was extremely narrow and he wasn't slowing down. At the last minute I had to swerve right next to the cliff to avoiding him hitting us, and we all started screaming as it scraped the rocks. I readjusted the wheel slowly to get back on the road and let out a huge sigh of relief as we got straight again.
"We almost died!" Shouted George from the back of the truck, looking back behind us at the coach which was flying up the road. I was just thankful we hadn't been on the other side of the road when that happened.
"What an idiot" said Josh, "Well done, Lily" he whispered, looking at me and smiling.
I nervously smiled back, just praying we made it down to the bottom of this mountain safely.
The rest of the drive down wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be, I kept the truck rolling down slowly and when we reached the bottom I let out a huge sigh of relief and George and Lucy started clapping whilst Josh took my hand and kissed it lightly, giggling at them both in the back.
I smiled and got parked up. I took both my hands off the wheel and realised I was shaking, Josh took them both and held them close to him, calming me down instantly. I took the keys out of the engine and unlocked the doors, all of us jumping out and looking around.
It was beautiful. We were at the bottom of the mountains and the sea stretched out ahead of us, the sandy beach was nearly empty apart from the odd couples dotted around the beach and swimming in the sea. "Shall we get the map sorted out and then go for a swim?" I asked, looking round at everyone eagerly.
"Definitely!" Lucy replied, and George and Josh nodded, all looking out across the sea.
I turned around and noticed a gift shop on the water's edge. I grabbed my bag and locked the truck doors, heading towards the store. Josh followed behind me, taking my hand and swinging it between us, humming as we walked.
The air conditioning in the shop felt so welcoming and I immediately saw a stack of Majorca Island maps on one of the shelves. I eagerly headed towards them and took one off the shelf, opening it up to see a detailed map of the Island; I spotted Cala D'or straight away and thankfully our location was already pointed out on the map. We were on the other side of the Island to the resort. Oh no.
Josh noticed it at the same time as I did, "Oh no" he said, mirroring my thoughts.
"It's ok, we have this now so we should get back soon. It can't be too far, this Island isn't very big" I told him, trying to be optimistic. Just as we said this, George came running into the store holding up his phone, with Lucy running behind him.
"I have signal guys!" He shouted, running towards us smiling.
My mum and dad I thought straight away.
Before I could say anything, Lucy looked at me with a worried expression, "Lily we should really ring mum and dad, they will be so worried!" She said, pleading towards me.
"I was thinking the same thing. We have a map now, George is it ok if I ring them?" I asked him.
"Of course, I only have a tiny bit of charge left so I don't know how long it will last" He said, handing me the phone.
"Thank you" I smiled, typing in my mum's number into the phone. I pressed the call button, feeling nervous about what I was going to tell her.
The phone only rang for a couple of seconds when my mum answered, sounding exasperated. "Hello?" She asked.
"Mum, it's me, Lily..."
"Oh my goodness Lily, are you ok? Where are you? Is Lucy with you? What is going on?" She bombarded me with questions, not allowing me to answer until she had stopped.
"Mum I'm fine, I'm so sorry. We went with George to get Josh from the airport, it's a long story. But Lucy is here, we are ok. My phone has no charge so I couldn't ring you. Then we got lost and are now on the other side of the Island, but we have a map now and are heading back to Cala D'or soon."
There was a long pause at the other end of the line whilst my mum thought over everything I had just told her. Eventually she spoke, "You are in big trouble, Lily. Just get back here as soon as you can."
I could hear the relief in her voice and I promised we would get back as soon as we could, telling her not to worry. I put the phone down and turned to the everyone who had clearly been listening to the conversation, "That could have gone worse I guess" I said, smiling warily.
"Just wait till we get back, they are going to kill us" giggled Lucy, clearly glad that now our parents knew where we were and that we would be heading back soon.
I nodded and giggled, trying not to think about how mad they were going to be at us. Instead of worrying I picked up the map and took it to the counter to purchase. When we had sorted that out we headed back to the truck to put all our bags in and then decided to go for a swim in the sea before we left. We took our clothes off at the truck, thankful we had our swimming clothes on underneath, and put them inside, whilst I locked it behind us.
"Race to the sea?" Suggested George, a cheeky grin spreading across his face.
"3...2...1...Go!" Shouted Josh, winking at me as he thought back to our race across the beach the day we met. I winked and smiled back as we all raced down the beach, sprinting across the sand and crashing into the waves at the same time. We all dived under the water, the coolness of the sea feeling amazing against our burning skin, and as we all surfaced at the same time we burst out giggling and started splashing each other with the water.
Josh grabbed my hand and dived underwater, pulling me with him. As we swam down we were met by huge shoals of beautiful, multicoloured fish that swam between us. He turned and smiled at me, looking at my face of amazement as I stared at the beautiful coral reef below us. I looked up and met his eyes underwater, his beautiful face made my heart ache, I longed to kiss him again. He must have been thinking the same thing as we raced up to the surface of the sea, and he grabbed my waist as we got out to the open air. He pulled me close, one hand kept on my waist whilst the other stroked my cheek, pulling my head close to his. His eyes stared into mine, and he kissed me like he never wanted to stop. I couldn't think of anything but the way his lips felt against mine and how much my heart felt like it was going to burst when he kissed me. He then took his hand off my face and placed it onto my waist, lifting me high up into the air and twirling me around whilst his lips left mine and kissed my neck. I started giggling whilst in the air and placed my arms on his shoulders, kissing him softly as he lowered me down back into the sea. I pulled away and wrapped my arms around his waist, cuddling close to him as he leant his head on my shoulder. We stood there for a while, thankful to just be with each other again.
"I love you, so so much" whispered Josh into my shoulder.
"I love you more" I whispered back, cuddling closer to him.
"Impossible" he replied.
