Chapter 10: The Tree

Mike

"Slow down boys, one at a time!" Hopper looked really confused. "Ok so we were the car yard when Chewy ran past, we followed him and he lead us to Eve, who is El's twin sister. Eve was knocked out so we carried her back to Mike's place. She was kept in Hawkins lab her whole life and was tested in but she didn't show any signs of having powers. When the lab closed down she escaped. Also Will has been having dreams where he has been a demogorgan and in one of them he went to the upside down and saw El." Lucas lectured him.
"Ok then." He shook his head slightly and looked up at us. "What is with you kids, honestly." He chuckled, but his face turned serious.
"Listen guys, there is something I'd better tell you." He was addressing all of us but he looked straight at me. "What is it?" I asked nervously.
"For the last year I have driven out into the the forest past Will's house, there is a wooden box in the forest that I have been putting food in..." he stopped for a second looking down and breathing in heavily.
"The food is for Eleven" he breathed out. "What! She's alive! Where is she!" I shouted, slamming my hand on his desk.
"Look kid, I know this isn't easy for you but I need you to stay calm." He said with a frown, "Fine! Just tell me where she is." I spat out. "The upside down." He said firmly, but with a frown.
I slumped down in the chair in front of his desk and put my head in my hands. No no no no no! This can't be happening, she can't be there. "We have to get her out." I said, looking up at Hopper. "How?" Was the only response I got.
"I think I know how." Will spoke up.

Will

"I know it's a long shot guys, but I think there could be something at the tree, the one I went through in my dream." Hopper looked at me with furrowed eyebrows and I explained my dreams to him, his face was dropping the more I told him.
"Do you know where to go?" Hop asked and I nodded, "Alright then, let's go." He grabbed his keys and lead us to his car.
"What about our bikes?" Dustin asked, "We will take the car, you can pick them up later." The Chief replied as he opened his door and gestured for us to get in.
"We need to go to Mirkwood." I spoke up as I squished in beside Lucas, Dustin and Eve, Mike sat in the front. Hop nodded and headed in that direction.
We turned the corner into Mirkwood and I started to recognise some of the trees. "Stop!" I shouted and Hopper slammed on the breaks.
"This is the spot." I exclaimed jumping out of the car and jogging into the trees, I heard the doors slam as they followed me.
I closed my eyes and tried to collect my thoughts. "This way guys." I waved them over "Are you sure you know where it is Will?" I hear Mike ask as he ran to catch up to me. "Yeah, I'm sure it's just up here." I tried to reassure him.
"There it is!" I shouted and ran up to the oddly shaped tree. I was right! But I wish I wasn't...
There was slime pulsing around a tear in the tree, it started to close up, none of us would be able to fit through it.
Everyone gathered around the tree except for Eve. She stood at a distance staring nervously at the small gate. "Well you were right kid, it's just to small to get anyone in or out." Hop said, patting me on the back.
I glanced at Mike and saw him wipe away a tear. Lucas and Dustin walked over him to try and comfort him.
I was too when I noticed Eve walking towards the tree, intrigued, I watched. She bent down to the level of the gate and reached her hand out.
Her sister was in there, her only family.
She let the tears that were forming roll down her cheeks and drip onto the ground as she put her hand on the tree. As soon as she did the gate grew! She immediately pulled her hand away in shock. I turned to the boys, "Guys did you see that?!" I shouted, "See what?" Lucas asked, walking over to me. "Eve, can you do that again?" I asked her quietly, she wiped her nose and nodded. She placed her hand on the tree and the gate grew again!
"You do have powers!" Lucas shouted. The gate was now big enough for someone small to fit through. "Eve are you alright?" Lucas asked her, she looked drained and her nose was bleeding. Badly.
The gate began to close again. But at least now we knew we could get in or out. Just as the gate was about to close completely I heard a tiny sound and I wasn't the only one who heard. Mike came sprinting over to the tree, "El!" He shouted into the gate.
"Mike?"
