Chapter 16: The Demogorgan

After Will left everything settled down; Max and Dustin headed home, Lucas stayed for a little longer then left as well, then it was just Eve, El and I. The house was once again peaceful. Eve and El sat cross legged on the couch facing each other, talking quietly. The  orange sunset shone brightly through the window and placed at El's face. I couldn't take my eyes off her. The way she looked confused when she didn't understand a word, the way she looked kindly and lovingly at her sister, and the way she looked at me.
There was a click from the basement door opening and I panicked, thinking it would be my mom coming to bust me but it was just Nancy. She floated down the stairs with more clothes for the girls and offered the shower to whoever wanted it. Eve stood up and cautiously followed Nancy upstairs.
Finally for the first time in what seemed like forever, El and I were alone together. I headed over to the couch and sat down facing Eleven. She stares longingly into my eyes and I take her hand in mine. "El I'm so glad you are back." It feels like a dream I never want to wake up from. "I'm glad to be back." She said smiling and looked at our intertwined fingers, "I'm not sure how much longer I would have lasted." She spoke quietly, her lip quivering. "Why what happened." I furrowed my eyebrows together and put my hand on her arm, she looked up at me with pain stricken and weary eyes, "The Demogorgan, it, it could have gotten me." Hot tears leaked from her eyes and ran smoothly down her cheeks. I wiped them away gently with my thumb, thinking of a response,"I thought you killed it that night at the school. The night I lost you." I looked down at our hands, still joined, "I couldn't, I wasn't strong enough." She breathed in heavily, new tears forming in her eyes, "Hey it's ok, it can't get you here, I'll make sure of it." She looked at me in admiration and I pulled her into a hug and she cried quietly into my chest. "I promise."
Her body relaxed and she began making small noises, she was asleep. Eve came quietly down the stairs, observing the two of us on the couch, she gave me a small smile before sitting at the table. She picked up the dungeons and dragons book and began flipping through the pages, she stopped on one and read it quietly to herself. As she did she looked at the pieces then back to the book. Her small hand reached out and grabbed onto that same piece that has brought us so pain in the past. She looked up at me with concern in her eyes, she looked uneasy. I gently lifted El off me and payed her down on the couch and tip toed over to Eve.
"You ok?" She shook her head and pushed the book in my direction, sure enough it was on the page about the Demogorgan, "Read this." She whispered and pointed to a paragraph, "One of the Demogorgans destructive abilities is to harbour the body of an individual, this can be done through different dimensions, usually if the individual has come into contact with it." I read out loud, my facing dropping, I immediately felt ill, "Will." I breathed, my voice shakey.
I jumped up and ran to my super com, sliding the antenna up, "Lucas! Lucas do you copy!" I yelled in panic, forgetting that El was sleeping 3 feet away. The radio crackled, "Its Lucas, what's up? Over." He replied calmly, "The passage about the Demogorgan!" "Yeah, what about it?" He huffed, "It says that it can harbour people's bodies from different dimensions! That's what is happening to Will!" There was a long silence that went for what seemed like hours. "Shit. What can we do?" His voice shakey and panicked now like mine. "Meet at my house in the morning, bring Dustin, we need to reread the book, see if we can find anything, over." "I'll see you then, over and out!"
I put the radio down and stumbled back over to the couch, El as sitting up rubbing her eyes, "Sorry El." She stood up and wrapped her arms around my waist, "It's ok, everything will be ok, I promise."
