The sound of my bedroom door opening made me groan and roll over. "I'll get up in a minute," I said gruffly, covering my face with a pillow. I heard movement. "I'll get up. Jeez." I rolled out of bed and looked over at the person, looking down at the twins. I rubbed my eyes. "What are you doing in here?"
"Came to see you three." Jake says.
"Why?"
"Lani's mum told me..."
"Oh."
He nods. "I'm sorry; this has to be hard on you." I shrugged and looked away, not wanting to answer. "How are you holding up?" He asked softly, sitting down on my desk chair.
"I'm okay I guess."
He sighed and looked at the twins. "Reckon they're going to see their mum anytime soon?" I shrugged. "She'll see sense soon."
"Have you talked to her?" I shake my head. I don’t want to know what she's doing. There is no way it could be more important than the twins. He sighed again and looked around.
"Something going on?" I ask.
He shook his head. "Just thinking. What are you going to do if Lani, you know, doesn't want...?"
"I don’t have a clue."
"How will you cope with it?" He asked, spinning around to look at me. "You will have to deal with the twins, school and college applications as well."
"I know. I'm already having a hard time with just the twins."
"You've always got me to help you out," he said, grinning. "I'd love to."
"Thanks Jake, that means a lot." I tell him. "If Lani doesn’t want us, I don’t know what I'll do..."
He smiled. "You'll get through it," he told me. I smiled in thanks. Boy do I hope he is right. "Want to watch TV?" He asked, resting his head on his arm. I shrugged and nodded before throwing the remote over at him. He puts something on and makes sure it isn’t too loud.
We watched TV in silence until the program ended and Jake looked over at me. "What now?" I asked him.
"We can just hang out."
He chuckled when I rolled my eyes and smiled. The sound of the twins shifting made me get up and go over to them. They're both awake. Jake appeared next to me and picked up Nicole. "Are they hungry?"
"I think so," I told me, picking up Matt and gesturing for Jake to follow me. We head downstairs where my mum and dad are in the kitchen.
"Hey, what are you boys up to?" My dad asked, looking up at us from his newspaper.
"Feeding the twins." My mum prepared two bottles for the twins and handed one to me then to Jake. "Thanks mum."
"Its fine, sweetie." She patted my back. "How are you Jake?" She asked, turning to my friend.
"I'm good thanks, and you?"
"I'm good thanks for asking." mum says. I smiled as I fed Matt, watching as he finished the bottle quickly. I look over at Jake who has Nicole, she still hasn’t finished her bottle.
He smiled when he looked over at me. "Can we take them out?" He asked, grinning. "They don't care for the park now, but it’d be great to show it to them."
"Yeah sure." I smile. "We'll have to stop at... Lani’s to get the stroller though.."
He frowned. "I can go get it if you want." I nodded and smiled. "Okay, I'll be back soon." he said before handing Nicole to my mum.
