"So what is it?" I asked impatiently. Sam and Dean had been out almost all day in their suits with their fake FBI badges. Dean raised an eyebrow at me and Sam chuckled. "Come on, tell me." I groan, rolling my eyes.

"We're not entirely sure yet, but it's not something you need to be involved with." Dean explains vaguely.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I mock offence, but I'm sure his reason is the same as it is any other case.

"It means you shouldn't get too far into this. It's dangerous." I can easily understand that Dean is quickly becoming impatient with my questions about the case.

"Just tell me a little bit, and I'll leave it alone for the rest of the night. Please?" I didn't want to leave it up in the air, though. I wanted to help them on cases. But then I think back to this morning.

"Ava, stop asking." Dean snaps. His words are sharp and I understand them quickly. Maybe Sam would let me in on what we were hunting here. Until I can ask Sam, I just nodded my head and sat back on the bed. I watched Dean sigh and run a stressed hand through his hair before walking to the bathroom. I waited until I heard the shower turn on before asking Sam about the case.

"So are you gonna let me in on the case?" I ask him, not beating around the bush.

Sam breathes deeply, looking at me with a hint of shame and guilt. I can only begin to wonder why before he begins explaining to me what they'd found out.

"There's a reason Dean doesn't want you in on any of this case, Ava. So far all of the victims are teenagers."

"Teenagers?" I question. What kind of supernatural creature would go after just teenagers?

"Yeah, the corener said they were all friends at the high school. His daughter was one of the kids." Sam frowned for a moment before shaking his head and continuing. If you ask me, this big man sure has a big heart. "Someone was walking down one of the streets downtown and found them all not too far apart from one another."

"How many were there?" I asked. The way he was talking about it made it seem like quite a few.

"Only four have been found at this point. They've got police around the area looking for any more kids."

"Kids," I mumble with a tinge of sadness. With that one word I started understanding why Dean didn't want me to be a part of this. I was still just a kid in all technicalities, and if this thing was after teenagers, it could come after me. If I truly cares about my safety, I'd stay away from the hunt as best as I could.

However, the nagging thought in the back of my head was making it harder to convince myself to stay away. Of course my safety matters, but what about those who are dying because of this thing. People my age. They still have lives ahead of them, and no offence to my father and uncle, but if I stay with them, I might not have much of a future. It sounds like overdramatized version of a selfless thought, but it was hard for me to ignore.

"You don't have to be the one to save everyone, Ava." Sam says as if he was reading my thoughts. "There's a lot of people out there to do it. You can still live the life you want to live."

"Spoken just like my father," I half-heartedly joke.

"Dean isn't lying when he says it, either." I nod in agreement. I know that, but it's not like there's much else I can do with my life. I'd rather spend my lifetime saving people than working at McDonald's until I'm eighty years old.

I take a deep breath before pushing him further into the details. "Do you have any idea what it was yet? Or any clue as to what could lead to figuring it out?"
