Alessandro's POV
I hold the phone up to my ear and start to pace up and down, out front of Courtney's hospital room.
"Hello?" Someone finally picks up.
"Hi. Alright what I'm going to say will probably be really hard to hear. I'm not trying to sound like a creepy stalker, but I do know who you are. You can't go to the police about this. It will end really ugly if you do. Can you promise me, not to go to the police?"
"Um alright," he replies. "What are you talking about?"
"Courtney's alive."
"I'm sorry. If this is some kind of sick joke, it's not funny. I know she's dead. I was just able to except this, I don't need you to reopen closed wounds."
"No seriously Adam. She's still alive. There was a reason why there was no body. But she is going to be dead if you don't help me."
"What?"
"I know Megan has leukaemia. Has your parents or any other relative have had any other form of cancer?"
"Mum had breast cancer. But please don't tell Courtney that. She was battling it by herself. And our aunt had leukaemia as well. She died of it. Courtney doesn't know any of this and I want to keep it that way. Please don't tell her, if she is still alive."
"Alright I promise. But promise me, you won't go to the police. Courtney is safer if the world thinks she's dead."
"Wait who are you? I'm sure I've heard your voice before."
"You don't remember me? Football team buddy?"
"Oh my God, Alex? No way! My sister's actual alive? But why the hell did you kidnap her? Out of all the people in the world, you kidnap her?"
"I didn't kidnap her. Saladin's still in messy business, so it's safer if the world think she's dead. Trust me on this, she's fine."
"Oh my God, I just can't believe she's alive. I trust you. Just keep my sister safe. Keep her alive. Can I visit her?"
"I'll see what I can do. How's Samantha coping with this?"
"Well let's just say the phone is on speaker. She's over the moon."
"I can't believe we're talking after all this. I'll see what I can do about bringing you guys over. Stay in contact."
"For sure, football team buddy. Talk to you soon," and he ends the call.
This is crazy. I knew it was someone I reconsidered as soon as I saw her. I just couldn't place her, until I heard Adam's voice.
I walk back into Courtney's room and sit down. I fiddle with my phone case for a while before breaking the deathly silence in the room.
"Do you think Courtney's family could visit her?"
"But she's dead to the world," Luca replies, looking at the floor.
"What if I told you her brother played in the same football team as us, for a while."
Luca looks up from the floor and he makes eye contact with me. You could tell he's thinking hard about something and then he's face lights up. "No way. It isn't Adam Naidoo, is it?"
I nod and smile. "The one and only."
"No freaking way! Wow! That kid had talent and now he is Courtney's brother! Whoa, I didn't except this. Boss and Saladin will be sure to let them visit. Actually call Saladin now."
