Not long since I arrived in Storybrooke, I found a way to write to Anastasia. The White Rabbit delivers our messages back and forth. In other words he was our messenger. The two of us have a time schedule that was a little complicated. Today I was to receive my letter in the middle of school.
I was up late the night before thinking about what I should tell her, depending on what she told me. By morning, I had gotten up quite late. My watch did not go off in a ring. I sprinted all the way to school after desperately trying to get my uniform on. When I arrived I had to go to Math class for first period.
It was only then that I had noticed that my hair was a mess and my shirt wasn't fully tucked in. I saw Kenzie smiling at me. I smiled right back at her and sat down next to her. We didn't talk for the rest of that class. When the bell rang, we started heading to art class. Kenzie walked up to me and said "Hey!"
I smiled at her and said "Um, hello Mackenzie." A little shyly. Amateur! I thought about myself. I looked down at my golden watch for a moment because I needed to keep well track of time. We walked in silence to Mr. Andrews' room. She sat down at the back of the class while I sat down a few seats away from her. "Today we're going to be learning how to draw a self-portrait." The teacher said in a loud voice.
I was no good at drawing human beings. A girl with blonde hair sat next to me and said "Hi Alex! I'm Melissa!" I just looked at her. She was kind of pretty "Um, Hello." I said. I couldn't see what Kenzie was doing. Melissa twirled her finger in her hair. "So, how old are you?" She asked "Thirteen" I said "Me too, when's your birthday?" She asked "April 17th" I told her "Oh, you're older than me." She said and put her hand on my leg, close to somewhere I'd rather not mention. I looked at her hand.
"Why don't we ditch this class and go talk outside?" She whispered in my ear. I turned and got a glimpse of Mackenzie, who looked at her talkie ring ring device thingy, then at us, then left the room. Melissa noticed me looking "Don't waste your time with her, I could make things much more worth your while." She said and got close to my face. "Let me stop you right there. Coming onto me, getting close to places isn't going to help you." I said. She backed up.
Was it her first time being rejected?
"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested." I said. She rolled her eyes and ignored me. I decided to leave class and go see Kenzie. I followed the beautiful sound of her singing voice to the nearest school exit. She was sitting up against the glass doors. I knelt down and said "Are you all right Mackenzie?" I was stupid! I should have said something sweeter. Her face was very red and she looked as if she had just been crying. She nodded to me.
"Was that you singing? It was very Beautiful." I said. She nodded again. I held my hand out to her and she took it, I lifted her up. She moved her hair out of her face, looking away a little. Was she shutting me out? I looked out the glass doors and saw the White Rabbit was here "Would you like to go somewhere with me?" I asked. She looked outside too and noticed the rabbit. We walked out there. And I took the letter he had grasped in his hands. I read it, smiling.
Alexander,
I send you this letter to inform you that your parents have escaped Jafar's grasp. They are taking shelter in my kingdom and await your return to Wonderland.
~Anastasia"What's that?" Kenzie asked "A letter from the Red Queen, Anastasia." I replied. The rabbit hopped away. Mackenzie seemed skeptical and asked "Well, what does it say?" I smiled at her "My parents are free from Jafar!" I exclaimed "That's great!" She said. Her talkie ring ring device thingy rang. She looked at it, ignored it, and read her text bubbly things. She made a face and whispered "Uh oh!"
Down the hall we saw the principal walking towards us. "Miss Nolan, Mr. Kingsleigh, the two of you are in a lot of trouble." She said. Her name was Mrs. Anderson. What trouble? Did we do something wrong? Kenzie rose up "Yay! Detention is my favourite activity!" She exclaimed. I tried my best to hold back a laugh. Mrs. Anderson rolled her eyes and we began walking to the office.
We got there and she said "Now sit here! I will deal with the two of you soon!" She pointed at some chairs. I sat beside Mackenzie who had a worried look on her face. I put my hand on her knee, "We'll be okay, don't worry." I reassured her, staring into her beautiful eyes with her looking right back at me. With a few moments, she looked away. Mrs. A came back with two pink slips and handed them to us.
"Miss.Nolan, I want you to go and explain to your mother why you got this. Mr.Kingsleigh, I want a signed note from your parents by tomorrow. You are now free to go." She said. Kenzie and I headed to the door of the office. "Sorry." She said "For what?" I asked "For getting you in trouble." She replied.
"You didn't get me in trouble but I do think you need to explain what a detention is?" I said, confused. She laughed, I absolutely loved her smile. "It's when you have to stay after school in a classroom with a teacher and you have to wait for half an hour before you can leave." She said. "Oh I see." I told her. "I'm going to go explain to my mom right now, see you during gym!" She said.
"See you then. Can't wait!" I said with a smile. She turned and began walking away and I walked towards the gym. I really couldn't wait! I wanted to be with her as much as possible. I liked her but Did she like me or not? I needed a sign!
When I got to the gym, the boys' teacher Mr. Emery had them running laps around the gym. Ethan, who was in his usual grey tank top and red shorts for gym strip, and was covered in sweat, stopped to put his hand on my shoulder. "You're late." He said with his half-British accent. I laughed and pushed his hand off "Get your sweaty palms off me!" I said and went to get changed into my gym clothes.
