Crash Into Me

Pain, I felt intense pain. But only in my left leg. Then like a reflex, I moved my hand down and held the pain, and it didn't feel right. I moved my hand back up in front of my face and there was blood — a lot of blood. But I was alive. And since I'm alive, something occurred to me "Mackenzie!" I shouted.

"I'm here Alex!" I heard. I was in great relief she was alive. I managed to sit up, I looked around me and we were sideways. The driver was stuck in his seat. A woman was impaled. The other woman was trapped under something and a man was halfway through a window on the roof. This bus was in complete chaos. Slowly but painfully I got to stand. I took a step and it felt like I got shot in the leg and I fell to my knees. "Urrrggghh!" I tried to stand again. Mackenzie had gotten to me and helped me up.

She had blood on her head "You're bleeding..." I said "I'm okay, don't worry about me." She smiled at me, nearly crying. Kenzie ran her fingers through my hair "And you. You're gonna be fine, okay?" She assured me "Okay." I said. "Right, now lets help these people!" She shouted and tried to help the woman under a handlebar pole.

I went to the man through the window. "Hey! Can you hear me?!" I called. "Yeah!" He said "What's your name?" I asked "Hunter Rigby." The man told me, struggling to see my face. "Okay Hunter, I'm going to break the window. Are you ready?" I said, picking up a broken off bus chair. "As I'll ever be..." he sighed. I raised my eyebrows for a moment and smashed the left side. Hunter fell downward and a glass shard went into his lower right abdomen. "Oh god! Are you ok?!" I asked, running to his aid.

"I'm alright. Just go help the others!" Hunter spoke through quick breaths. After a second I nodded and went to the other side of the bus. I shivered a little, I knew we were half jammed into an ice wall but it was ridiculously cold. "What's her name?" I asked what appeared to be the woman's husband. "Her names Nancy. I'm Gilbert." He said. Their daughter was crying softly. "Shh Riley, mommy's gonna be ok." Gilbert said. "Okay Gilbert. Nancy I have to remove this piece of metal from your stomach." I said assuringly. She nodded, ready to cry.

"I might need your help Hunter!" I called, looking to him. He wasn't moving. "Damn..."I whispered. I grabbed hold of the broken iron. "One... two..." I pulled it out quickly. Blood spattered on my face. "Always better when they don't see it coming, now we need to stop the bleeding!" I told Gil. I took my coat and shirt off and applied it and pressure to the wound. "Oh what the hell..." Gil followed my lead. "Freezing in here." Gil said. I agreed. "Keep this held down, just a second." I said, passing Nancy off to him, and going to Hunter.

The unmoving man drew closer to my eyes as my injured leg limped me towards his face. I went around front of him, and he was frozen, dead. He even had icicles hanging from his face. I shook my head, eyes getting teary. I shut his eyes but his frozen eyelashes broke off. I wanted to throw up. At the right moment I got back to Nancy and Gilbert. "Hold on." I said, checking Nancy's pulse. Nothing. I began to perform CPR, I learned in a book I read. I continued for 30 minutes until Kenzie came up behind me, putting her hand on my shoulder. "She's gone..." She said.

Gil began to cry loudly, cradling his dead wife, his daughter hugging him.

"Let's give them some space." Mackenzie said. She helped me stand up and we walked to the front of the bus, where the driver sat shaking his head. I held my girlfriend's hand, still in a bit of shock. "I just wanted to have a nice night with you." I said. She looked into my eyes for a bit, then her lips crashed into mine. Kenzie then pulled away. "This isn't your fault, but it is someone else's I know that much." She said.

"Now we need to get out of here." She said, taking out her ring ring device thingy, of which I still can't figure out. Kenzie attempted calling her mother. "It's... not working..." She said, a little panicked. I sighed in an "aw crap" kind of way. My girlfriend went around the bus, trying to get a signal. I sat down, I couldn't think of anything that could help us get out. It was night, I was tired, I must have dozed off.

3 hours later

A jolt went through my nervous system when someone touched my back. I looked around. It was Kenz. "Hey. It's just me." She said calmingly. Her voice was getting weak and quiet from the bitter cold. It appears she never got any.... bars is what you call them? "How the hell are we going to get out." I asked. We sat silent for a moment "I got it. My mom can whistle and communicate with birds, maybe I can too." Mackenzie said, beginning to try to blow air through her blue, chapped lips.

There was no noise. It was dead silent.

She looked to me slowly, she put her arms around my Freezing body. I still had no shirt, because mine was now covered in frozen blood. The bus driver, Joshua, looked up with hope. "I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier!" He exclaimed, slowly he stood and moved back to the driver's seat. He began honking the horn.

We all had to believe that eventually someone would come, that someone would hear the bus horn and break us out of the ice. Lucky for us, someone did.

Some time later...

Kenzie and I, sat on her bed watching a movie, eating popcorn, wrapped in blankets with our past fear of the cold. "Today was scary..." I said quietly. She almost laughed a little "Agreed." She said, taking more popcorn. I looked at her. "The best part was when your lips crashed into mine." I said, she looked back at me. I smiled at her and she smiled at me, we kissed once more.

Sorry for the huge delay in chapters but I've been getting so many tests and exams are coming up and it's been really stressful for me this past while so I hope you enjoyed this intense, long(er) chapter.
