The Dead Rise

Chapter 6

"Put down your weapons!" Someone yelled from a stand on the other side of the wall.
"Put em down guys" Carter said looking at everyone
They all put down their weapons then the gate opened, a man walked out and stood in front of the group.
"Welcome to Partkville safe zone." The guy said
Another guy walked over to them and took the ammo out of their guns. He walked back into the safe zone and it was just them and the other guy, he walked over to them and shook Carters hand.
"I'm Colby, the welcome wagon so to speak." Colby said
"Doesn't look like a wagon to me." Noah mumbled
"He meant..." Carter was gonna say but then was cut off
"What's your names?" Colby asked
"I'm Carter this is Olivia, Noah, Sarah, and Edge." Carter said
"Well nice to meet you guys, you can pick up your weapons if the boss likes you you can have you magazines back." Colby said
"Who's the boss?" Edge asked
"His names Wayne"
They walked into the safe zone.
"It's like they don't know what's going on." Noah said
Everyone was basically going on with life like it wasn't the apocalypse.
"They really don't" Colby said "The only time they see the outside is when the gate opens."
"What about the deadheads, don't they hear them banging on the wall?" Sarah asked
"Nah they don't really listen to it much." Colby said
They walked into what looked like a city hall, Colby knocked on the door labeled "Mayor"
"We got some new guys." Colby yelled "See ya later" he said walking away
The door opened to a guy with a black vest on top of a blue shirt, he had a baton in belt.
"Come on in fellas grab a seat. Well ones gonna have to stand, need to get more chairs" he said laughing
They sat down excluding Noah he had to stand.
"Welcome to Parkville, my name is Wayne and I'm the mayor so to say. You are more than welcome to stay here if you want, I would assume that's why you came am I right?" Wayne asked
"Yes sir." Carter said
"Well let me lay down the laws, basically it's the same laws as before the apocalypse but you gotta do something. You have to have a job, you're not working for money though, you're working to stay here. Can't just let people in and expect supplies to come out of thin air." Wayne said
"So do we get to pick or do you pick for us?" Olivia said
"I'll pick and if you don't agree just tell me and we'll change it. First off Noah you still young so you get to go to school." Wayne said
"Crap" Noah said
"What did you do before Olivia?" Wayne asked
"I was a teacher at Noah's school." Olivia said
"Well you still are, we only have one other person with some kind of teaching degree here so it think you could help her out." Wayne said
"Edge and Carter you two are gonna be runners, basically go out and get supplies. It dangerous but you two look tough, there are plenty of guys that are good at it that will help you out." Wayne said
"I worked at Walmart before you ask." Sarah said
"Ok then. Hmmm....  Sarah you get to work at the town market. Basically pick fruit and put it on shelves easy." Wayne said
"Well now that that's settled, do we get a house I've been needing some place comfortable to lay my head?" Carter asked
"You bet." Wayne said
Wayne took them to two houses and gave one house key to me and the other to Edge.
"I figured you wouldn't want to be scrunched up in one." Wayne said
"I'll bunk with Edge" Sarah said
Carter looked at Edge and smiled. They walked into the houses and got their long needed rest.
