The Dead Rise

Chapter 47

Carter woke up the next morning and walked toward Noah's room and stopped outside the room when he heard laughing. It was Jake and Noah laughing, Carter smiled and opened the door. Jake was sitting in the chair next to the bed talking to Noah.
"Wow." Carter said
"What?" Noah asked
"You guys were laughing. It's been so long since I've heard laugher." Carter said
"Yeah after the safe zone we haven't had much time for laughing." Jake said
"Yeah." Carter said looking down
"Carter if you need to talk to Noah alone I can leave." Jake said
"No you're fine." Carter said
"So how are you holding up?" Noah asked
"Fine, I just don't understand what that meant last night." Carter said
"Maybe she just wanted to say goodbye?" Noah said
"Maybe." Carter said
"Hey Carter, did Marcus find his way back by chance?" Jake asked
"No I haven't seen him." Carter said
"Ok I'll go look for him." Jake said
Jake walked out.
"I don't think I'm gonna try anymore." Carter said
"Try what?" Noah asked
"To find someone else, the only person I really need to keep alive is you... you're the future of this group no matter how big or small it is when I die." Carter said
"But you're not gonna die. Not anytime soon." Noah said
"Yeah not anytime soon." Carter said patting Noah on the head.

Jake walked outside and got on his dirt bike and rode toward where he killed those guys. He noticed a semi-fresh trail of blood going to a warehouse. He walked in with his gun drawn and followed the blood to Marcus. He was dead, his legs and arms where gone Jake looked over and saw at least twenty more dead bodies in the same state.
"Oh fuck." Jake said before swaying and passing out.

Carter walked into the room where everyone was gathered up to eat. Carter sat down next to Dr. Hanson and one of his people handed out the food, it was some type of steak. Carter ate some and really enjoyed it.
"This is amazing what animal is this from?" Carter asked
Dr. Hanson tensed up
"Bear, It's bear." Dr. Hanson said
"Well it's the best fucking food I've had in a long time." Carter said
"Yeah Tyler always kills the best bear." Dr. Hanson said smirking
"Yeah and maybe he should pay more attention to what he's shooting." Carter said
"Yeah I'm really sorry about that." Tyler said
"It's fine he's alive and that's all that matters." Carter said
"So Carter you gonna bring some to Noah?" Dr. Hanson asked
"Yeah I was just about to do that can I have an extra plate?" Carter asked
"Yeah." Dr. Hanson said
Carter brought a plate to Noah.
"This food is amazing." Carter said
Noah at a piece.
"Wow." Noah said
Dr. Hanson peeked through the door.
"I gotta go out real quick all be right back." He said

Jake woke up being drug through the warehouse, two guys drug him to a corner and picked him up and chained him on the wall hanging by his arms. The two guys walk away and a guy come out of the darkness.
"I've been told you killed two of my men, why couldn't you just leave it be?" The guy asked
As he came out of the shadows Jake figured out it was Dr. Hanson
"Dr. Hanson?" Jake said
"I'm gonna kill everyone one of you people." Dr. Hanson said
"Why, why are you doing this?" Jake asked
"A mans gotta eat Jake, don't you understand that?" Dr. Hanson said
"You're gonna eat us?" Jake asked
"Yeah I'm gonna beat and torture you to make sure if or when your people find you they know we mean business." Dr. Hanson said
Dr. Hanson grabbed a wooden stick and starting beating him with it. He found a rope and used it as a whip slashing at Jake making him scream in agony.
"Fuck you!" Jake yelled
Dr. Hanson started hitting him harder and Jake passed out from the pain.
"Ok let's leave this kid chained up and leave the door open so some of the dead ones kill him." Dr. Hanson said
Dr. Hanson opened the door on the other side of the warehouse and left it open while leaving.
