Chapter 29

Carter walked into the door of the school and saw a guy tied to a rail.
"Uh who is this guy?!" Carter yelled
"Oh hey Carter. This guy came up on the kids said he talked to me and he didn't no telling what he would have done." Zoe said
"Was he asleep the whole way here?" Carter asked
"Yeah." Zoe said
"And he's still out?" Carter asked
"Yeah." Zoe said
"Who hit him?" Carter asked
"Noah did." Zoe said
"Yeah that's my boy!" Carter yelled
Carter leaned down and gently slapped the guy.
The guy opened his eyes slowly.
"What were you gonna do to those kids?" Carter asked
The man said nothing
"Ok I see how it's gonna be." Carter said punching the guy apron the face and knocking him out.
"Well that was quick." Zoe said
"I'll take care of him." Carter said
Carter picked  him up and threw him in the truck and out a blindfold on him.
"Stewart, you wanna come with me?" Carter asked
"Sure." Stewart pulling down his jacket sleeves and getting in the truck.
"It's getting kinda cold." Stewart said
"It is November we've been pretty lucky temperature wise though it seems like it's been getting colder hopefully it doesn't start snowing." Carter said
"Who is this guy?" Stewart asked as Carter started the truck and pulled away
"He came up on the children and Noah knocked him out. We're just gonna take him down to Denver and put him on a building or something." Carter said
They drove into Denver and climbed to the roof of a building.
"I think the zeds saw us come up here they're blocking the door." Stewart said
"God this guy is heavy." Carter said throwing him down
Carter walked over to the edge and looked down.
"Shit we may be trapped." Carter said
"You can find a way out you always do." Stewart said
"Thanks buddy." Carter said patting Stewart on the back just then he got hit in the head.
Carter turned around to see the guy, Stewart ran away.
Carter punched the guy in the face once, the guy ran at Carter and pushed him over the edge and grabbed his legs.
Carter was hanging off the building with a mountain of zeds down below him.
"Holy shit man, this is like fifty stories if you're gonna drop me do it." Carter said
"Ok" the man said
The man released his grip and got it back real quick.
"Where do you live?" The man asked
"I can't tell you that." Carter said
"You might want to." The man said
Carter looked down at the drop and looked back up at the man. Stewart was sneaking up on the guy with a metal pipe.
Carter was shaking his head no because if Stewart hit him Carter would fall. Stewart hit the guy and Carter felt the grip release and he stared yelling.
"Carter you're not falling." Stewart said
Carter opened his eyes and Stewart pulled him up.
"How'd you get me that quick?" Carter asked
"Slight of hand." Stewart said
The man got back up and ran at Carter but Carter simply slid over and the man fell off the building.
"Well ok then." Carter said
"Well the zeds are definitely staying in front of the building now." Stewart said
"How do we get off?" Carter asked
"Well there's a steel beam we can cross to get to the other building." Stewart said
"Uhh no." Carter said
"What other choice do we have." Stewart said
"I could jump off this building and hope the zeds cushion my fall." Carter said
"That's a terrible idea." Stewart said
"It was a joke let's go across the beam. You go first." Carter said
"Ok." Stewart said
Stewart walked to the beam.
"One foot in front of the other." Carter said
"Shut up." Stewart said
Stewart crossed the beam with relative ease. Now it was Carter turn.
Carter stepped on the beam he walked to the middle when his foot slipped and he fell grabbing onto the beam.
"Fuck." He said looking down
"Uhh just climb back up." Stewart said
"What did you think I was gonna do let go?!" Carter yelled
Carter climbed up and stood up slowly regaining his balance when he stood up he felt water land on his face.
He looked around and it was snowing.
"Holy shit its snowing."  Stewart said
Carter got to the other building.
"Thats not good." Carter said
"Why not?" Stewart asked
"Well we don't have thick enough clothes, not enough propane for the heaters, not enough food. It's pretty bad." Carter said
"Well let's get off this building and go home we can think of something there." Stewart said
When they got out of the building there was at least half an inch of snow on the ground.
"It's sticking." Carter said
"When it snows in Colorado it blizzards so we need to get back we can get supplies tomorrow if it isn't too deep." Stewart said
"Ok that'll work lets just get outta here." Carter said
