The Dead Rise

Chapter 10

"We need to go back." Carter said waking up from his sleep in an abounded grocery store
"What?" Skylar said waking up
"We can't just leave them there." Carter said
"Who." Edge said
"Wayne, Colby, Jim, and everyone else." Carter Sid
"They're probably dead." Denis said
"We don't know that and if they are alive we gotta get to them before Wyatt does." Carter said
"Why?" Skylar asked
"He's gonna find them and make them think we're bad, then they'll come after us." Carter said
"Why would he do that?" Denis said
"He has it in for me, and you all would just be collateral." Carter said
"He has a point." Edge said
Skylar shook her head
"Come on we have to do this, if you don't want to you guys can stay here and I'll go on my own." Carter said
"That's suicide." Skylar said
"It may be but I have to protect you guys and Wyatt is a serious danger right now." Carter said
"Ok I'll go." Skylar said
"Edge and Denis you stay here with Carter anything happens try to hit us up on the walkie." Carter said
Edge nodded to Carter and him and Skylar left
They were driving and talking.
"I have something else I have to do." Carter said
"What's that?" Skylar said
"I have to find Olivia and put her down. I can't live with it in my mind that she's one of those things." Carter said
"That's understandable." Skylar said
"Skylar you're a good friend you know that." Carter said smiling
"Yeah, I try to be. You know that's the first time I've seen you smile since the safezone fell." Skylar said
"Isn't strange that we're going back?" Carter asked
"No it's just a reminder of what we've been through." Skylar said
They arrived at the safe zone and it was still filled with deadheads and one of them was Olivia.
Carter and Skylar jumped out of the truck and ran into the building closest to the door.
"Do you see her?" Carter said looking out the window.
"Over there" Skylar said pointing to a large break in the deadheads with her standing in the middle.
"Go I'll watch your back." Skylar said
Carter ran through slashing Zeus until he got to his former lover.
"Hey honey" he said getting closer.
She jumped forward at him.
"I just wanted to say I was sorry, sorry I couldn't protect, sorry I wasn't better to you. Sorry I didn't come back sooner. I love you." Carter said looking at deadhead Olivia.
Just as he was about to stab her a bullet went through her head. Carter looked over to the origin and saw Wyatt.
He had his gun pointed at Carter.
"You gonna kill me?" Carter said with his hands up.
"No I'm gonna take you to your group in the store and kill them while you watch." Wyatt said
"Why? They did nothing why not just kill me?" Carter asked
"That would be to easy." Wyatt said
"You are one piece of work." Carter said
"See I am a better survivor than you, I'm gonna last longer, I'm gonna keep better..." Wyatt said just before a bullet went through his head. Carter turned to look and it was a girl with a Winchester rifle with a scope. Carter kept his hands up as the dark skinned girl approached him she got up to him and put out her hand for a hand shake.
"Lucy Bennett." She said shaking Carters hand
"Carter Daniel." Carter said
Carter motioned Skylar out.
"That was some scary shit." Skylar said
"You're telling me. This is Lucy Bennett and she saved our lives." Carter said
"I'm Skylar." She said shaking Lucy's hand.
"What's going on out here." Someone said walking out of a house.
"Jim!" Carter said
Carter walked over to Jim and gave him a hug.
"Nice to see you Carter but we have a problem." Jim said
"What's that?" Carter asked
"Colby, he's injured, we need to get him to the hospital in Denver." Jim said.
"Ok lets go. Lucy you want to roll with us we can use someone whose that good of a shot?" Carter asked
"Sure." Lucy said
Lucy and Skylar went to the truck while Carter and Jim carried Colby to the truck.
They were driving toward the store.
"How you hanging Colby?" Carter asked
"I'm not." Colby said quietly
"What happened?' Carter asked
"We were running and he saw Wayne getting torn apart and he tripped and some glass stabbed him in the chest." Jim said
"Uh he's not breathing." Lucy said
"Shit!" Carter said still driving
"Do CPR." Skylar said
"We don't know how." Lucy said
"Throw him out." Carter said
"What!" Skylar said
"Throw him out!" Carter yelled
"That's fucked." Lucy said
"We gotta do what we gotta do Lucy." Carter said
Jim opened the door and pushed Colby out.
Everyone was quiet until they got back to the store.
They walked in and reunited with everyone.
"Guys you remember Jim, and the new girl is Lucy."  Carter said
"Nice to meet you people." Lucy said
"Nice to meet you too." Denis said
Carter smiled again. Skylar nudged him.
