Chapter 13

I drove back home, but when I entered my house, I remembered something. I had to make up for the hours lost the day before at the bar. Ugh… I hated to worked so much. I changed my dress, and got in my uniform. I got a text from my dad.

‘I have to send you some recordings you did here. Do you want me to send them over?’

I hadn’t left any cover back home. When? I mean… Almost 2 years had passed and he hadn’t mentioned anything about them. Maybe he had listened to them… Oh my god, he couldn’t have…

I walked out and entered the bar, already whispering some lyrics that were in my head.

You said it in a simple way,
4 am, the second day,
How strange that I don't know you at all.
Stumbled through the long goodbye,
One last kiss, then catch your flight,
Right when I was just about to fall –
Right then I crashed into Ash Stymest.

“Oh, sorry.” I said and shut my mouth. It was really awkward when someone heard me sing. I hated it. My music was for me.

“You sing really well, -------------.” Sty said. I smiled awkwardly. I knew he had heard me mumbling around lyrics, like I always did, but never singing.

“No, I don’t… I just… well… I think I should get started.” I tried to grab a glass, but it fell to the floor. “Damn it.” Ash smiled and laughed, he helped me to pick up the broken pieces.

“C’mon, do me a favour.” He said throwing the last pieces of the broken glass to the bin.

“What?” I asked still not being able to look at him.

“Sing that song. Only a little bit.” He said and sat looking at me. I was about to find an excuse for that, but when I wanted to it was to late. He had already dragged me up the little stage and he grabbed his guitar.

“Do you even know the chords bad boy?” I laughed and he gave me a look.

“Why can’t I like Taylor Swift?” He said and I nodded.

“Touché.” I giggled. “But, I’d rather play the guitar myself.” I grabbed the guitar and sat as comfortably as I could.

“Ok… so I’ve known you for like 4 months and I didn’t even know you played guitar.” He complained.

“Well, you always learn something.” I said as I tuned it, taking my time. “I’m not really comfortable with singing in front of people, so consider yourself a privileged person.” He nodded and smiled. Ash was the kind of bad boy who was even sweeter than the shy kind of boy. His appearance didn’t match his inside at all. I cleared my voice and looked at the guitar.

You said it in a simple way,
4 am, the second day,
How strange that I don't know you at all.
Stumbled through the long goodbye,
One last kiss, then catch your flight,
Right when I was just about to fall

I told myself don't get attached,
But in my mind I play it back,
Spinning faster than the plane that took you...

And this is when the feeling sinks in,
I don't wanna miss you like this,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.
I guess you're in New York today,
I don't wanna need you this way,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.

The delicate beginning rush,
The feeling you can know so much,
Without knowing anything at all.
And now that I can put this down,
If I had known what I'd known now,
I never would have played so nonchalance.

Taxi cabs and busy streets,
That never bring you back to me,
I can't help but wish you took me with you

And this is when the feeling sinks in,
I don't wanna miss you like this,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.
I guess you're in London today,
I don't wanna need you this way,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.

This is falling in love in the cruellest way,
This is falling for you and you are worlds away.

New York... be here.
But you're in London and I break down,
Cause it's not fair that you're not around.

This is when the feeling sinks in,
I don't wanna miss you like this,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.
I guess you're in New York today,
And I don't wanna need you this way,
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.

I don't wanna miss you like this.
Come back... be here.
Come back... be here.
