Ch:12 The Bus Clue

As me and Carl walked hand in hand Daryl said "sorry to interupt you two lovebirds, but Shelby, you need to let me clean your cut". I looked back and said "ok". I unlocked hands with Carl and walked over to Daryl. I smiled and said "please dont call us lovebirds". Rick smiled and said "ok, we will call you a couple then". I looked at Rick and smiled. I said "dont call us anything".

I took off the backpack and got out the bandage, gauze, tape, and disinfectant. Daryl said "Ok sweetie, this will clean the cut out, but it will sting like a son of a bitch". I let out a small laugh and said "great, give me something to bite down on". He handed me his red bandana and said "use this". I smiled and said "thanks".

I sat down and said "ok". Carl sat down next to me and held onto my hand. He said "just squeez my hand if you feel pain". I said "I might hurt you". He laughed and said "no you wont". Daryl said "yes she will". Carl looked at me and said "well I dont care, just as long as I know that she will be ok".

I smiled and said "do it Daryl". I bit down on the bandana as he unscrewed the lid. He opened my cut so that it split into 2 parts so the disinfectant would go in. he said "ok, here we go". He poured some over my cut and I winced in pain. I squeezed Carl's hand tightly and bit down on the bandana. The pain was horrible. He kept pouring it out and the pain only got worse. He left about half a bottle left and asked "are you ok honey". I shook my head still biting down on the bandana from the stinging and burning.

Daryl said "your one tough son of a bitch, most people would be yelling and screaming, but not one peep out of you". I smiled a little smiled and took the bandana out of my mouth. I said "that stung like a bitch". Daryl, Rick, and Carl all smiled and Carl asked "are you ok"? I smiled and said "i'm fine".

Daryl said "It will be sore and might hurt a but, but I need to put the bandage on and wrap the gauze around the cut tightly". I said "do whatever you have to do, I just want to get this covered up".First he wrapped the gauze around my arm andmade sure that it was on really tight. Next he put the bandage over the gauze and I winched a bit.  He then wrapped the medical taped around the bandage to make sure that it stayed on nice and tight.

I smiled after he was done and I said "thank you". He said "well I gotta take care of my little sis". I smiled when he called me his sister. I wish he was my real brother, because my real one is dead. I smiled and said "well i'm glad I have a big brother to protect me". He smiled back and we all got up.

 Carl held onto my hand and laced his fingers between mine. I smiled and said "thanks for comforting me". He smiled and said "it's nothing, I just want my girlfriend to be ok". I thought to myself thinking "did he just call me his girlfriend"? I got excited and let a smiled grow on my face.

Rick and Daryl smiled and they walked infront of us. Daryl whispered something to Rick then they both started singing. They sang "Shelby and Carl sittin in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in the baby carriage".

Carl laughed as I slapped Daryl and Rick on the back of their heads. Daryl and Rick just laughed and Daryl said "oooh, someones blushin". I walked beside Daryl and said "I'm gonna kill you". He smiled and said "sure you will".

I walked back over to Carl and said 'they are so immature". He smiled and said "I think your right". I tightned the backpack around me then Carl took it. He said "that crossbow weighs a lot, so I will carry this for you". I said "but you are also carrying the duffle bag full of food". He smiled and said to Rick "dad, could you take this". He handed Rick the duffle bag and looked at me. He siad "I dont have the duffle bag anymore, so I can carry this".

I tightened the strap of the crossbow so it fit nicely on my back. I asked "so how much further do you think we have until we hit sundown. Daryl looked at the sky and said "about 2 hours left". I said "good to know".

As we walked I happened to look over to my right. Off in the distance was a bus. I stopped and ran while saying "look over here". They all seen what I saw and we all ran to it. I put my small fingers in the door and pried them open. I got on and looked through all of the rows. Nobody was in the bus. Daryl tried to hotwire it, but it didnt work. Daryl said "god dammit, it's outta gas".

I got off the bus and looked down at the ground. I seen tracks and said "we follow these tracks, they will lead us to them". Daryl looked at the tracks and said "good spotten girl". I smiled and nudged him saying "I learned from the best"!

Daryl and I took lead as Carl and Rick walked behind us. We kept following the tracks until we came to another road. I looked each way and pointed to the right. I said "there are dead walkers on the right. So I bet that means they went to the right". Daryl said "geez, your really good at this".

I just kept walking and saw something walking down the road. I said "whats that on the road down there"? Rick grabbed his gun and pointed his scope at the figure. He said "just a walker". I ran over to it and put a knife through it's head. I asked "does it look familiar"? Rick and Carl examined it. Rick said "that was one off the people that came in from woodbery". Daryl said "well this is the way to woodbery, so we should keep going this way".

I let Daryl and Rick get infrony of me. Carl was about to walk next to his dad, but I grabbed his backpack and pulled him back. I quickly kissed him on the lips and I said "your walking with me". Carl kissed me back and said "ok".

After we walked for awhile we came up to the gates of a town. I looked at Daryl and asked "so is this woodbery"? Rick and Daryl both turned to me and they said in unison "yes".

Daryl walked over to the gate and said "shelby, come over here". I walked over and asked "wutcha need"? He said "I'm gonna boost you up". I stepped on his locked hands and he flung me up. I grabbed onto the gate tightly and jumped over it. I broke the rusty lock with one swift kick and opened the gate for them to come in.Daryl smiled and said "3 more points for ass kicker". I laughed and said "you better make that 4". Just after I said that a bullet went right through my left leg.
