Surviving The Walking Dead

Ch:30 Saved (last chapter of book one)

We all ran. We ran into the woods and didnt look back. Daryl said "almost there, I can smell campfire smoke". We picked up our speed and we ran even faster. I stopped when I was the group. We all walked back and I whistled. The group looked in our direction. They all got up and ran over to us.

Maggie ran over to Glenn then clung to him. She planted kisses all over his face. She said "you scared me half to death, we thought you all were dead". We all walked back to the campfire. Everybody took a seat and relaxed. I got up and walked over to a tree branch. I dragged it back over to my spot by the fire. I took off the leaves and threw them onto the fire.

I cut the wood into small pieces. I cut so much that the wood might last us for a few days. I put my knife in my pocket and walked over to Daryl and Carl. I sat inbetween them and leaned against Daryl. I hugged him and said "I'm glad your ok". He smiled and said "I'm ok thanks to you". I smiled and said "it was nothing". He said "yes it was, the bus kept tilting because of those walkers. If we were on that bus roof for about 5 more minutes we would be dead right now. So it is because you saved our lives".

I smiled and said "well thats what little sisters are for, to save your life". He smiled and said "exactly". I sat up and put some wood on the fire. Maggie and Glenn were cuddled up together by the fire. Maggie whispered something to Glenn and they got up. Glenn grabbed a gun and they disappeared into the woods. I yelled "have fun". Everybody else smiled. Carl laughed and said "who would have thought, our Glenn end up with Maggie".

Beth said "Maggie usually goes with me, but she isnt here, be right back". She got up and also walked into the woods, but in a different direction then Glenn and Maggie. I looked at her until she disappeared into the dark forest. The moon and the stars started to come out. Carl leaned close to my ear and whispered "I love you". I smiled and whispered "I love you too". 

Carl grabbed my hand and said "I'm glad you found us". I said "I'm glad too". I grabbed Carl's head and leaned his lips towards mine. After our lips met Rick and Daryl cleared their throats loudly. Carl and I smiled as we took our lips off of eachothers.

I looked over at Rick and Daryl and smiled. Daryl said "get a room". He smiled then let out a small laugh. I punched him on the shoulder and Rick started to laugh. Carl asked "whats so funny"? Rick said "oh nothing, just that you 2 are growing up so fast". Daryl pretended to cry as he said "my baby sis is growing up to fast". I smiled again and pushed him.

I rolled my eyes and said "you can pick on us all you want, b.......". A scream came through the woods. Someone was screaming my name. It was Beth. I grabbed my crossbow and said "stay here". I ran in her direction and screamed "WHERE ARE YOU"? She screamed "SHELBY, HELP ME". I ran towards the screams, then I seen her.

There was a walker ontop of her. It was trying to bite her, but I didnt see any bite mark on her. I kicked the walker off of her and put an arrow through it's head. I walked back over to Beth and helped her up. I said "cmon, lets get back to the fire, it's not safe in the dark". I grabbed her hand and she slapped it.

Beth started to cry and said "I cant go back". I said "yes you can, nobody will be upset with you". She said "no, I mean it's not safe for me to go back". I asked "why not"? She showed me her arm. In the moonlight I could see a bite mark on her wrist.

My stomach twisted into knots. I said "we need to take off your arm, NOW". I took out my knife from my boot and put it up to her wrist. She said "no, it wouldnt help". I said "it worked for your father". She said "when it bit me it bit me where my vein is. It's infection is already in my bloodstream". I said "well Maggie needs to know". She shook her head and said "no, I dont want her to see me like this".

I screamed for Daryl. In seconds he came running towards us. When he reached us I said "Beth got bit". Daryl said "I'll get Maggie". Beth grabbed him and said "I dont want her to see me like this". He said in a frustrated voice "she NEEDS to know". Beth said "no, she can remember me before I got bit". She turned towards me and said "I need you to kill me".
