"It's really pouring now..." I commented as I peered out the window. As if on cue, the rumble of thunder boomed through the restaurant.
"Alright, now," Byakuya called, trying to gather everyone's attention. I shifted my attention towards him, hesitantly prying it from the sky outside. He stood in the center of the room, his arms folded in front of his white suit. "I don't know when this storm will let up, but it's better to remain in this building until it does. You can go to your cottage if you absolutely have to, but I advise that you avoid doing so unless absolutely necessary."
With his small speech over, everyone resumed their activities. Sonia was playing with Gundham's hamsters, while Teruteru, Akane, and Nekomaru cooked together in the kitchen. The others were absorbed in other pastimes as well, all laughing and enjoying themselves despite the crummy weather. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed Chiaki sitting at a table all alone, engrossed in a video game. I decided to approach her.
"Hey, Nanami-San," I called, the girl prying her rose colored eyes from the pink game system and focusing them on to me.
"Yes?" She murmured brazenly, a stoic expression on her pale face.
"There are some arcade games downstairs, if you'd want to play them with me," I offered innocently. Wordlessly, the girl nodded and stood up, shutting off her game system and sliding it into her car bag.
"Let's go," she breathed as she speed walked down the stairs. She was clearly excited, in a childlike way that was admittedly endearing.
"Gala-omega," she read out loud, scoping out the handful of game systems the hotel possessed. "Can we play it together, (y/n)-chan?"
"Yeah," I nodded as I selected the two player option. Nanami beat me with ease, us only having to play a few seconds before she obliterated me. "You're really good!"
She shook her head. "I'm not good enough yet..." she sighed, pointing to the scoreboard. While she was in second place, someone scored above her by nearly double. I felt a bit shocked as I read the name out loud.
"Komaeda?!" I exclaimed. "How did he get up there?"
"Oh, are you talking about my high score?" A male voice responded. Komaeda ran down the staircase, leaning over me to read the scoreboard. I felt my heart flutter slightly at his close proximity, but he promptly moved away.
"How lucky am I! Only playing this game once and doubling the score of the Ultimate Gamer!" He laughed innocently, his hands upturned as his arms were in a shrug.
"This was all luck...?" I wondered out loud.
"Yeah it was!" He insisted. "Let me check your score, now. Only 300? Wow, you really do have bad luck!"
"No need to rub it in," Chiaki chimed in. "Scores don't matter as much as having fun does."
"Nanami-chan, can I play against you?" Komaeda pleaded, the grey haired girl nodding. I took a few steps back as Komaeda took my place, engrossed in the game with Chiaki. I couldn't help but feel a little sad that they would abandon me so suddenly, but I didn't mind too much as long as they were happy.
"Someone looks upset," Hajime whispered, coming up behind me. I jumped a bit at his sudden appearance, but was ultimately relieved. Now, I didn't have to stand there and third-wheel them while they played video games.
"I'm alright, I guess... just a bit bored and lonely."
"Come kill some time with me," he exclaimed as he grabbed my arm, lightly tugging me towards the staircase. As I ascended it, I turned back for a brief moment and saw Komaeda staring angrily at us, his attention completely diverted from the game. Was he angry at me?
"What do you want to do?" I asked the brunette once we were back in the restaurant. Before he could even open his mouth, Teruteru answered my question for us.
"Looks like you two are going to be among the first to try my new dish," the short chef smirked, gesturing elaborately. Akane and Nekomaru hustled out of the kitchen, holding several plates of food. They placed them down at a table, then Teruteru shoved Hinata and I into the nearby chairs.
"It smells amazing," Hajime complimented, his eyes gleaming with delight. I took a whiff too, my stomach beginning to rumble at the delicious smell.
"What is this?" I asked the cheery plump chef.
"It's only Chicken cordon blue, mademoiselle. Bon Apetit!" With a small wink, he walked back into the kitchen.
"I'm hungry enough," I shrugged as I took up a small amount of the chicken with my fork and took a bite. As soon as the food hit my tongue, my mouth filled up with all of the rich and delicious flavor.
"It's amazing!" Hajime cried, his hazel eyes widened with delight. We continued to eat like it was going out of style, not stopping until both of our plates were empty.
"Wow, I haven't had something that delicious in a while," I exclaimed as I stood up to take our plates back to the kitchen. Once I walked inside, I gave Teruteru a warm smile. "That was awesome! Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome, mi amor," the chef replied. "Though, I'm not sure if you've noticed it yet, but there is a catch."
I stopped dead in my tracks. "A... catch?"
"Yes, my delicious cooking doesn't come free to many," he explained in a scolding tone.
"What... did you put in the food?" I questioned hesitantly, honestly not wanting to find out.
"You'll find out soon, madam," the boy chuckled. I hurried out of the kitchen to find a scene that was quite shocking. Hajime had collapsed over the table, but no one seemed to notice. I rushed to check on him, and he was thankfully breathing.
"He's just asleep..." I sighed in relief. Suddenly, I felt myself grow drowsy. I quickly sat back down in my seat before keeling over the table, my entire body shutting down just as my head made contact with it.
