Chapter 12- Hot chocolate

I toss and turn in bed, the weather outside had woken me up. The wind was howling, branches of the trees kept knocking at my window and the rain was pattering down. It had of course died down in the past half an hour but I was still unable to sleep. Groaning I glance over at the time displayed on my phone 5:30 and rub my sleepy eyes whilst getting out of bed. Normally, at home when I couldn't sleep I would get up and make myself a cup of warm milk. It always helps me fall asleep.

I step out into the hallway and tiptoe down the stairs trying to remember the way to the kitchen and I'm there in no time. I swing the door open and crouch down, trying to locate where the cups were in the lower cupboards. I had decided not to turn the lights on because there were bedrooms on the bottom floor and I didn't want to disturb anyone just because I couldn't sleep. Unable to find a cup in the lower cupboards, I decide to check the ones at the top. When I jump up and swiftly turn, I bump into someone with a small scream escaping my mouth. Whoever I bumped into, instantly wrapped their arms around me to stop me from falling and a firm hand across my mouth to muffle my scream. We had just watched a horror movie, I was jumpy okay?

"Shh, it's just me." Shawn whispers, of course out of all people it had to be him who I bumped into. His hand was still clamped on my mouth so I cleared my throat as a gentle reminder. He instantly let go of me an reached to what I'm assuming was the light switch as a few dim lights came on. Just enough for us to see around us but not disturb anyone else.

"Eva? Ugh why are you here." He says finally getting a look at me.

"Well no, it's a ghost and trust me you're the last person I wanted to see. " I reply sarcastically

"Damn, I better call ghost busters." He chuckles at his own joke.

"What are you doing up anyways Shawn?"

"I could ask you the same thing, do you want some hot chocolate?"

"I couldn't sleep, and um-"

"I'm not going to poison your drink,"

"Could have fooled me," I snort, saying it more to myself but I obviously wasn't quiet enough.

"Do you want some or not?"

"Sure, why not."

He offers me a small smile, grabs a second cup and sets off on making our hot beverages.

"Soooo Shawn," I say not wanting it to be awkward but at the same time I couldn't think of anything to say.

"Soooo Eva,"

"What are we gonna do today?"

"I think Andrew wants to have a meeting with both of us, I don't really know."

"Sounds like fun I guess,"

He turns around and pushes a steaming mug towards me and takes a seat.

"So, hows life?" I nervously ask, normally I loved meeting new people and talking to them but it was difficult for me right now. I think it's because I knew Shawn didn't like me.

"It's okay, what about you?" he shakily laughs, this was as alien to him as it was to me.

"Great thanks," I asses the room, looking everywhere but at Shawn and take a sip of my drink. It was one of the best things I had ever tasted and I groan in appreciation.

"I'm guessing you like it?"

"Nope," I say popping the 'p' "I love it!! Where did you learn to make hot chocolate so well?"
