Chapter 13- surprises

I wipe away another tear and head to the bathroom getting ready for the day. I try my hardest to stop myself from breaking down even more, it really wasn't that big a deal was it? However, tears still seem to find a way to slide down my face.
Quickly I shower and change into my clothes for the day, not bothering with any make up. By now it was half past eight, and by the chatter I could hear downstairs most people were awake hopefully. I throw my hair up into a messy bun so it was out of my way but a few strands still managed to fall out and frame my face. Before leaving my current room I quickly look over my outfit, which consisted of black skinny ripped jeans and a khaki button up top with of course my superstars. I had tried hard to disguise my red, puffy tear stained eyes, by that I mean I had washed them with cool water and had attempted to stop crying, but none of it seemed to work. Secretly I was just hoping that no-one really cared about me enough to notice and overall, wasn't troubled by the fact that might look like an absolute mess.
I pad down the stairs and enter the kitchen where the smell of waffles hits me, making my stomach grumble. I keep my head low trying to not attract attention, and slide into the first vacant seat I can see not bothering about who I end up sat next to. I hear a chorus of 'good mornings' and mumble the same as a reply.

"Morning Eva, waffles?" Andrew asks me over his shoulder.

"Morning and yes please," I reply, fiddling with the plain silver ring that my family gave me.

"Can you pass me the chocolate sauce please Eva?" The person sat next to me, Jess who I met at the dinner as my makeup artist, asks me. I glance out of the corner of my eye and spot the person on my right, who happens to be Shawn and see that the sauce is near him. Instead of asking him to give it to me, like any normal person would, I reach across the table in front of Shawn seeing him stiffen from the corner of my eye and pass the sauce to Jess. She takes it from me and has a closer look at me squinting as she does so and whispers in my ear

"You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine don't worry." I reply back, grateful that she didn't announce it out loud like some people may have done.

"Then put a smile on you're face, someone as pretty as you doesn't suit a frown!" she says, attempting to cheer me up.

"I'll try Jess, thank you. Oh and I'm not pretty!" This was my reply most of the time when people told me I was pretty, I could never take a compliment.

"Shut up! You're the most gorgeous person I've ever seen," as she says so she bumps my knee with her own

"You remind me of my best friend, she would always say that. Honestly, I'm not that pretty though if I was my boyfriend might not need to go to parties with other girls." I mentally kick myself, I always did this. I would get upset and end up telling people things I didn't need to, things that were probably ridiculous and I was overreacting about.

"He did what?!" Jess says, well kind of shouts, a lot louder than she needed to, attracting the attention of rest of the dinner table.

"What are you girls talking about?" Andrew asks sliding a plate of the most delicious breakfast waffles I had ever seen towards Shawn and starts too cook mine.

"Nothing just how gorgeous Eva is, she doesn't seem to think so but don't you all agree?"

I keep my head down and chew on my lip, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks as everyone agreed. Well almost everyone, Shawn's reply was just a snort which earned him glares from around the table. What a gentleman right?!

"Here you go Eva," Andrew says as he slides a plate of waffles towards me. They looked amazing!! Forgetting how puffy and glossy with tears my eyes looked, I lifted my head to grab my breakfast.
