..."WE WILL NEVER SLEEP CAUSE SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK, NO WE WILL NEVER REST TILL WE'RE ALL FUCKING DEA-"
"Ugh!" I shoot straight up in my bed and quickly type my password to my phone so I can hurry up and turn this stupid alarm off.
When it's finally silent, I rub my eyes, groaning as I glance at the time. I groan again in annoyance. 6 am is too damn early. I trek to the bathroom mumbling angrily to myself.
"Why the hell did they schedule me to come in this early?" I say this out loud even though I already know that Kelsey needs my help with the kids this morning. Today we're having storytime for children ages 3 and older and I was unwillingly volunteered to help out.
I work at the local library as the official library's assistant. It's a cool job but after going to college for 5 years, I feel like I could be doing better at the library. But then again, I'm only 23 and all of my coworkers are older and more experienced. Even though I was considered a genius.
Yes, I was the typical "nerd" in high school. I graduated early and went straight to Frostburg up in Virginia. I felt like I had to succeed because after my drug addicted father left, it was just me and my mom. But after I graduated college, I had to come back to New Jersey because of my mom. But I don't talk about that.
After I finish brushing my teeth, my cell phone rings. Frowning, I exit the bathroom and go back to my room. When I reach my phone, I roll my eyes at who it is. Regardless, I answer anyway.
"Hello?"
"Ellie it's me. Where are you? We planned to be 10 minutes early, remember?"
I roll my eyes and plop down on my bed.
"Kelsey, It's 6:15, we don't have to be there until 7."
Silence. Then, "Ellie. We have to be here at 6:30." I sit there frozen for a while in shock, then I run back to the bathroom. "Okay, Kel, I'm on my way. Please please please cover for me if I'm late." She sighs warily. "Okay Ellie, I'll try my best." "Thank you so much!"
I hang up and throw my phone randomly and rush to get ready.
...
Exactly 7 and a half minutes later I'm walking out of my apartment with my brown hair hanging in loose waves around my shoulders, paired with a simple white t-shirt and blue jeans.
I quickly lock my door behind me and rush to the elevator. After pressing the button several times, the silver doors finally open. I briskly walk inside and press the first floor button.
The elevator takes forever to reach the first floor which doesn't make sense because I only live on the fourth floor. Shaking my head slightly, I speed walk through the small empty lobby and through the doors.
Once outside, I pause for a minute to readjust my hair. That's when I hear it.
A deep painful moaning noise. My head snaps up in alarm looking for the source. I search around wildly until I spot something shift in an alleyway across from where I'm standing.
Cautiously, I cross the street, closer to the alley. "Hello? Who's there?" Now. I know that I'm being incredibly stupid and that I'm acting like the typical stupid girl in horror movies but I'm curious.
I hear nothing in return and I begin to question whether I heard the noise or not. I'm about to turn around and continue on my way when I hear it again. The noise is coming from behind a filthy looking dumpster.
I swallow the fear down and walk behind the dumpster.
A man from what I can tell is laying there. He's wearing all black and his hair looks black as well but then I look closer. Dark blood is pouring out of a wound and flowing into his hair.
I think about calling 911 first. Honestly this sounds the most helpful to this guy laying half unconscious next to a dumpster. But a tiny voice in the back of my mind tells me not to get the law involved. So I do the only thing I could think to do in that moment.
I help him.

Sorry it's so short. And sorry it's up so late but my classes were kicking my ass. I hope you enjoyed it though. :)) -C.W.
