"Are you the young man that brought in the girl?"
I nod.
"Well, I've come out to update you. You might want to sit down."
My hands start to shake.
Oh god, was Liam right?
Is Ellie dead?

Harry's povEveryone behind me is suddenly silent, awaiting the doctors words. You could hear a pin drop right now.
The doctor only looks and talks to me personally. I guess since I was directly involved.
"I am Doctor Jenkins and I am the head general surgeon of this hospital. We were unable to remove the bullet out of her stomach, for it is surrounding a sensative part of that area. So she will have to undergo surgery."
My heart constricts in my chest. I findit hard to breathe all of a sudden. "Do you know about her heart condition? I don't know if she's strong enough for surgery."
The doctor nods. "Yes the nurse informed us and during the surgery we will have our cardiac surgeon monitoring her heart throughout the length of the surgery."
"So what the hell have you been doing to her all this time?" Liam's voice is loud and clear as his slightly glazed eyes is fixed on the doctor.
"Well we have been trying to remove the bullet so we could avoid the surgery, but it's too deep and we need to open her up."
I mentally cringe at the thought of Ellie laying on a cold medical table, opened up; death a possibility.
Doctor Jenkins focuses his gaze back on me. "Does she have any allergies? Does she have any family that you might want to call? Also what is her name? It is good for doctors to know a patient's name during surgery."
My mind blanks. I don't know Ellie that well although it seems like I've known her for a while. What do I do? I don't know if I should give him her real name and I sure as hell don't know about any allergies. And her family? All I know is that she has a mom.
I guess Liam can sense my lack of information because he pipes up. "Her name is Ellie. She is allergic to penicillin and wheat. As for her family... well, we're her family."
The doctor nods. "I will send someone to update you all as soon as she is in the clear, okay?"
I nod curtly.
After he leaves I exhale deeply and sit down. Everyone else takes my lead and sits down as well. I look over at Liam, not sure if I should thank him for helping me just now. He turns his head and looks at me.
"What?"
"I wanted to ask you, where is Ellie's father?"
Liam frowns. "Well I don't know if I should be telling you this, but I guess it's okay considering the situation. Ellie's father left her and her mother before I knew them. He was a druggie, and he never came back. When I moved across from them, Ellie and I became best friends. The only problem was her mother."
"Her mother? What was wrong with her?"
"Well, whenever I saw her, she was always really vacant. Like she would do the basics for Ellie, but she eventually stopped doing even that. My parents mostly took care of Ellie after a while."
"And where's her mother now?"
Liam looks at me, skeptically. "She's better than she was but... it's honestly not my story to tell. Ellie should be the one telling you, not me."
