I Wish I Hadn't

"I don't think I've ever heard of a day where they canceled school because it rained so much!" Amethyst said to me on the phone. It was practically flooding out. Not literally: but a pouring that was too much for me to take the risk of walking from my house to hers: one over. "Well I loath school and I am especially found of rain. So today is a good day." I told her.

We were conversing on the phone, looking at each other speak through our closed windows but our voices being delayed from what we saw. It was hard to see her even though our windows were what I estimated to be ten feet apart. Though I could still tell she looked attractive. I didn't even need to see her because her appearance was embedded in my mind. Her giggle came out of the phone and into my ear. Naturally, I echoed the giggle back with an accidental snort. I saw Amethyst fall back and then delayed laughter exited the phone. "Hey Ames, do you think it would be possible for me to cross over to your window and for you to then proceed with letting me in?" I questioned. "Uh I don't-I don't know Per, I don't want you slipping and sliding. Hell, you could fall off of the roof!"

"I think-I think I am able to make it!" I said while grabbing a neon green wind breaker and pulling the hood over my curly and wavy mess of hair, that I ignored and left disheveled today.

"I'll meet you half way and help bring you in." Amethyst offered.

Carefully, I opened the window and the rain began to hit my head like rocks from the sky. It was so dark and eerie out that it could be confused for midnight. In reality it was 11 in the morning. Amethyst exited her room and waited outside, her arm out stretched to mine. My feet began slipping on the roof when I realized shoes would have been a good add on. Instead my bare feet became wet and calloused. I stretched as far and my short arm could go until my small hand met with her larger one. Amethyst then proceeded to tug me inside with a yank that sent the two of us flying back into her room.

I sat up realizing I landed on something squishy. "Oh this again." I muttered realizing that this had been the second time I landed upon Amethyst like this. I threw myself off as she began to giggle. My face formed into a dorky smirk while she got up. "Nerd." She stated, as always; my face began to heat up and my legs tense up. It was a new thing for my legs to tense up. It was abominable. I'm not sure if you get what I'm trying to say but my legs tense up when I'm horny. In short: she 'turned. me. on.' I suppose I'm just putting that out there now. But I'm already a transparent as a drinking class or as apparent and readable as a book. Amethyst, in all likeliness, knew I had a romantic attraction for her. SHE, in all likeliness, did not reciprocated these emotions.

"I wanna do something exciting!" Amethyst announced. "Like go to the park or something ya know? Anything would be better than this shit."

"I prefer the indoors actually" I stated. "Eh not me. Outdoors is my life. I need some adventure." She responded. "Well you're welcome to head outside and create an adventure out there" I said moving my head towards the window. We both stared out of it for a while hearing the rains splatter down and create sounds like bullets hitting the roof and windows. "Nah. Let's get some juice instead." She said.

"Why don't you make Pearl get it for us? Isn't that just what she does? Then we can stay here." I suggested. "'Cause I don't wanna stay here. Let's do something.....Plus Pearl will yell at us then."

We walked down stairs to their kitchen to open the fridge as Amethyst pulled out a plastic bottle of apple juice, pouring a glass for the each of us. "Make that three!" Pearl said walking in the room behind us. She wore a teal tank top turtle neck with khaki capris. She looked like a real mother, though I believe she was in her late twenties. "Four!" Steven shouted running hastily down the stairs tripping over his own feet, wearing his classic outfit of a off-red shirt with a big yellow star placed in the center. "Five." A last voice said in monotone from Garnet. She walked in from the living room wearing black leggings, a white shirt, and a flannel around her waist. Amethyst sighed and I grabbed three more glasses from their cabinet. Amethyst proceeded to pour as the rest of us sat down at their kitchen island. "Hold on! I have cookies!" Pearl said and grabbed some from a plate that was on top of the fridge. "They were hidden from short people under the height of 5'7"" Pearl announced with a giggle. "You mean Steven and I." Amethyst said grabbing a good handful of cookies, smashing them while grasping them, then tossing them in her mouth: crumbs on the perimeter of her lips. "Peridot too." Pearl added "you have her over here so often!"

Garnet stared at us, a smile spreading across her face. What a rare occasion this was. "She's practically family now!" Steven added. My eyes widened: I didn't want to be seen as her...sister! "Ha yes! Look at us! One. Big... Family!" I stated choking out those words. Amethyst looked a little out of it, perhaps she didn't see us having THAT close of a friendship. I sighed. "Is everyone in this family queer?!?" Steven said mocking me from that one time a while ago. Everyone laughed but I let out a nervous chuckle - still regretting my words from that day. Pearl patted the top of my head in an odd motherly way. I attempted to fix the mess she created.

We chatted about various topics while munching on our cookies and sipping our juice. God, it really did feel like we were family. Like Pearl was my mom. Steven my brother. Garnet my cool aunt. But I couldn't think of Amethyst as a sister. I couldn't. I loved her. I was IN LOVE with her.

The rain had ceased at 2:00 in the afternoon. Streets outside were flooded and all signs of the sun were erased by clouds of grey. "Let's go outside!" Amethyst told me. We were now sitting in her room with her Melanie Martinez record on, playing the board game: candy land. "We're gonna die if we do such a thing." I said moving my gingerbread man to the next purple square. "Yeah but like...the water is only in the street. We just walk on the sidewalk." Amethyst responded picking up a green card and moving to the space right behind Queen Frostine.

"Cmon you can borrow some rain boots. We both have small feet. You wear like a four, I: a five. Close enough."

"Ugh alright." I agreed grabbing my rain coat off of the floor with a sigh.

She handed me the boots from her overflowing closet, struggling to get it shut again. Amethyst put on periwinkle colored ones herself and a clear raincoat.

We sat in the muddy grass of the park: on the hill: near the tree. Where we always were. "So:" Amethyst said breaking the silence after we had been sitting here for two hours, our butts soaked in mud, creating conversations with no point. And here came another. "I'm thinking about getting a new piercing." She announced. I looked at both of her large ears. Each had a ring in the classic spot, and two studs on her upper ears. Funny: I had the opposite: studs on the classic spot (rarely did I wear dangly earrings) and two hoops around my upper cartilage. "No no not on my ear" she added noticing I had taken interest in her ears at the moment. For sure I was paying attention but I couldn't help thinking about how we were alone, in our favorite spot, soaked in rain and mud, how it was just a perfect moment. I watched her lips move. My eyes wandered to glancing at the rest of her. Admiring all of her. "That's cool." I interrupted before she told me where. She shut her open mouth. "Id like one here." I stated taking my index finger and thumb and making a loop around the side of my nose. My eyes became crossed as I tried to look at where I was referring. "A nose piercing?" She asked. I nodded. She was quiet for a second. "Hahaha!! Yes Peri! You'd look rad as fuck! I can see you rocking that."

My face got red.

I stared at her again.

I admired the moment.

I admired her.

"Well you see: I want one right here" she said pointing to her lip. She mimicked me but making a loop with her finger and thumb and squeezed around her lip. I looked at her in the eyes. "D-Don't do that..." I frankly confessed. "What!? Why not!? I supported your idea! Support mine! What's wrong with it I don't-" I cut her off. "Because then it would be harder for me to do this:

And I can't believe I did it. I didn't think about it. I just. I just...did it.

I kissed Amethyst.
