"Mornin' darlin'!"

What? Where was I? And why was Alex lying next to me? Alex? My head was aching. Terribly! I tried to mumble something.

"Mornin'! What... what happened last night? Because... I don't remember anything..."

"Nothing, stay chill! I think I just felt asleep last night when I drove you home. But... nothing more, relax! "

"Thanks God! And I promised I wouldn't drink that much!"

"You're not the only one, you know... So... how are we spending our hangover day?"

Both of us started to laugh.

"First, with a cold shower and some hot strong coffee!" I suggested.

"Good idea, darlin'! I'm going to my place now. I'll be here in half an hour to pick you up, ok?"

"Sure!"

I hardly got out of the bed. A very cold shower and some aspirin would make me feel better. I hoped.

"Better?" Alex asked me after finishing my coffee, orange juice and croissant at the nearby restaurant.

"Almost like new. What about you?"

"I'm used to this kind of things... I'm doing this every night after gigs..."

I looked scared at him. No! I wasn't going to do that five times a week. No way!

"You get used to this very fast and you stop having problems" he added, hoping to make me feel better.

"So... another party tonight?" I asked sarcastically.

"No, no, you know... the aim of my staying here in London was getting rid of these kind of habits... and writing of course..."

I breathed freely.

"Hey, you can help me write something. You already inspired me!"

"I don't know... that would be nice..."

I laid myself in his bed and didn't realise there was an album under my head. I took it and analyzed its cover. "The Very Best Of John Cooper Clarke" I just loved that poet! I got out of the bed and put the CD into the stereo.

"The milky way she walks around

All feet firmly off the ground"

Alex came with two glasses of fruit juice.

"Orange, apple, celery, grapefruit and I don't remember... I hope you'll like it!"

I took a sip.

"I love it!"

"John Cooper Clarke... he is a very good poet... he inspired me a lot! My hero!"

"I love him too!"

Alex got close to the stereo and changed the track to number 17.

"I love this one. For you, my darlin'!"

We raised our glasses and the poem "I wanna be yours" started. Alex got behind me and whispered each line of it into my year.

"I wanna be your vacuum cleaner

breathing in your dust

I wanna be your Ford Cortina

I will never rust

If you like your coffee hot

let me be your coffee pot

You call the shots

I wanna be yours

I wanna be your raincoat

for those frequent rainy days

I wanna be your dreamboat

when you want to sail away

Let me be your teddy bear

take me with you anywhere

I don't care

I wanna be yours

I wanna be your electric meter

I will not run out

I wanna be the electric heater

you'll get cold without

I wanna be your setting lotion

hold your hair in deep devotion

Deep as the deep Atlantic ocean

that's how deep is my devotion"

"It's so beautiful..." I said after it ended.

"Not as close as beautiful as you, Marie..."

He leaned over me and softly kissed my lips. He put his arms around me and I ran my hands through his hair. His fingers were burning my skin where they were touching me. He pushed me on his bed and got wilder as he was standing over me. With one hand, Alex was holding my head and with the other he was trying to unbutton his grey shirt. He succeeded in making it and was now trying to pull off my top. Breathing was no longer our priority, but the hunger for one another's lips.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door. We ignored it as I became more and more nervous. The knock didn't stop and I could hear Miles's voice:

"Alex, I know you there! Just open the freakin' door, man! C'mon, wake up!"

We gave up. Alex apologized and got off the bed, buttoning back his shirt on the way to the entrance door.

"I should... You know, I'm sorry..."

"No... No problem... Just go!..."

"What the hell you want, man?" Alex asked Miles angry.

"Hey, chill out! I just wanted to see how you're doing! Where's the girl? Marie, right?"

There was a moment of silence. Then suddenly Miles became to applause loudly with excitement.

"Oh, I understand! I didn't want to interrupt you, you know, I'm so sorry!"

So close for Marie and Alex...
