A love like this won’t last forever
Liam lingered only inches away from the bed, Jennifer sat up slowly and when her eyes met him the world fell away. Nothing else could matter when he met her eyes, she smiled, it lit up the darkness like nothing he had ever experienced. He was rattled to the core, scared of feeling but she held out her hand and he melted to the core. Memories, he was taken back to the moment they met, the moment she took his hand in hers and promised to help bury his secrets.
He had high hopes as he lifted his hand and their fingers slowly interlaced, he smiled. “Jen,” he whispered her name tenderly, the world kept spinning around them. But, in that moment nothing mattered but the two of them finally reconnecting, all the loss he had felt filtered away leaving him feeling whole once more. “I’m so-“
“This,” she whispered, “Is not how I wanted you to find out.”
Liam’s eyes trailed down to her stomach, “Did you think I would leave you?” His voice broke as he spoke the words he had been harbouring since the moment he found out about the baby.
Their baby.
She followed his eyes and her breath hitched, “no,” she shook her head. “I was stupid, I was scared and Rachel told me-“
“Rachel?” Liam asked.
“She,” Jennifer looked at him sadly. “I’m not proud of what I did,” Jennifer admitted but Liam continued stroking her slender fingers. “She threatened me, told me if I told you about the pregnancy I would jeopardise all that you have built, your empire, your career and I-“
“I’m scared too,” Liam admitted.
Jennifer let go of his hand and moved over, she opened her arms and he hesitated, “Please?” She asked with a small smile.
Liam was so gentle with her, he sat carefully on the bed she slid an arm behind him and rested her head on his shoulder. “I would never leave you Jen, you know that,” Liam sighed as she played with his fingers.
“I was scared and stupid,” she admitted. “Rachel paid me off to stay silent,” Jennifer groaned. “I never used the money, I threw it away.”
“Why didn’t you come to me?”
She closed her eyes, “I didn’t know what to say, I couldn’t ruin everything you have worked so hard for and-“
“It means nothing,” he kissed her hand. “Without you.”
She sucked in a breath and a lone tear fell down her flushed face and he whispered softly, “No, Jen please don’t cry.”
She smiled, “These,” she pointed to her face a little embarrassed are happy tears!”
Liam relaxed.
“I’m sorry Liam, for everything,” she sighed as she opened her heart to him.
Liam saddened, “I’m sorry.”
“We both fucked up?” She asked.
“As usual,” he smiled.
She took his hand in hers and began moving it to her swelling stomach, his breath caught and he pulled away. “Liam?” she asked.
He looked at her, into his big eyes and within them he could see the world. He could see the love she held so tightly to her chest for him, the pride she had for everything he had achieved and above all pure, unrelenting relief. Relief that he was here and he knew that truth, relief that she hadn’t thrown his life away. Above all, relief to see he still loved her.
