I was sitting in complete darkness when I heard something in the brush move. I quietly picked up my bow and arrow and took aim at the spot where I heard it. I waited quietly for the thing in emerge from the darkness of the woods and, to my surprise, a young girl walked out of the bushes. I set the weapon down and watched as a man walked behind her with a boy and another girl and then another man carrying a girl. The group looked tired and beaten as they walked towards my hiding place. The girl one of the men were carrying cried out and he nearly dropped her as she tried to sit up. The man swore and she mumbled an apology as she swayed slightly on her feet. The first man looked over his shoulder and then looked around the area. I leaned back into the shadows when he looked in my direction and he went back to the girl who seemed like she was drunk. He put a hand on her shoulder and she flinched away from him.

They made camp where they were standing and slowly they all fell asleep. After I was sure they were asleep I crept out from my hiding spot and crept past them, studying them. The first man had light brown hair and looked like he could have been a blacksmith had he had the right training but he wasn't muscled enough to be one so he must have been a soldier, I thought. The boy was younger than the two men and had darker hair than the first and was much thinner, as if he lived on the streets. The third man was taller and heavier than the first two and looked better off than any of the others, he had black hair and several weapons that could be seen. The first girl was younger than the other two with lighter hair, almost a honey color, and skinnier than the other two, like she grew up on the streets and slept restlessly, tossing and turning every now and then like she was getting ready to jump up and fight, she also faded in and out of view now and then, due to her power that was marked on her wrist. The second girl was tall and thin but not like the first girl and she had much darker hair than the other two, almost black and slept curled in a ball making her look peaceful and like a child. The third I stopped and knelt next to her head. She was the girl that I had thought was drunk but now that I was looking at her up close I knew she wasn't. She was like the first girl but taller and had darker hair and softer features. One of the others shifted and I looked up. I stood and stepped backwards into the night ready to bolt into the night and a twig snapped I froze and the third girl sat up, wide awake, her eyes wild and her chest rose a fell rapidly. For a moment I just stared at her and she at me, panic etched in her features. She opened her mouth and I quickly knelt next to her and put my hand over her mouth. She tried to pull away but I didn't let her and I pressed a finger to my mouth and she nodded. I slowly brought my hand away from her mouth, ready to clamp it back over her face in case she tried to scream and she watched me with wide, terrified eyes. One of the others shifted again and I looked over to make sure no one else was awake. When I looked back at the girl her hand was on a knife handle that I didn't see before. I glanced at it and moved away from her cautiously, eyeing the knife.

"Who are you?" She whispers and I give her a small smile, trying to calm her.

"Adam. I won't hurt you." I tell her. She looks down at the knife and quickly puts it back in its hiding place, her face darkening with a blush.

"I'm Jaclyn. Why are you here?" She asked quietly. I glanced over at the others and crouched down next to her ready to run off if I needed too.

"This is where I hunt, I came to check one of my traps and got curious." I lied. I had really been waiting for something to pass by and had nearly shot them when I heard them. She nodded and turned to look at me better. I blinked at her and sat down cross legged. I set my bow to one side and she glanced at it, nervously.

"So is there a village near by that you live in?" She asked quietly. I shook my head.

"No I live out here." I gestured around myself so she knew what I meant and she nodded.
