I had walked into the wrong room and surprised Adam when I walked into his room.

"Hey!" He exclaims and I jump.

"Sorry!" I exclaim and he laughs.

"Can I help you?" He asks and I stick my tongue out at him.

"I went to the wrong room alright?" I say and he smiles. He was sitting cross legged on the bed with an old book in his lap and he was flipping absently through the pages.

"Are you worried?" He asks suddenly and I frown, confused.

"About what?" I ask and he shuts the book and looks up at me suddenly.

"Tomorrow. Are you worried about tomorrow? What could happen?" He says and I hesitate.

"Yes. Are you?" I ask finally and he nods.

"I'm worried that something will go wrong and what we are trying to do will be for nothing." he says and I nod.

"Lets just hope everything goes right then." I say and he nods.

"Lets." he says and I turn to leave.

"Goodnight Adam." I call and he smiles as I look over my shoulder.

"Goodnight." He says and before I shut the door he says something else but its too quiet for me to hear. I walk into my room and lay down on the bed. The ceiling meets my gaze and I sigh. Tomorrow the six of us were going to face the Enemy and we were only six against an army. Granted, Jaclyn's plan was a good one we just didn't know if it was going to work.

"Please let it work." I say to the ceiling and I blow out the candle on the dress table next to the bed.

I wake up a few hours later with the images of death pressed into my mind. I squeeze my eyes shut and a sob escapes me. I was in complete darkness and I missed the soft knock on my door by the time I was up and moving around the room, knocking into things and crying. I was sitting back on the bed sobbing when I felt a pair of arms wrap around me.

"It's alright." They whisper and I sob as they rock slowly back and forth. Slowly I calm down and when I can control my breathing they stop rocking. "Nightmare?" They ask and I recognize the voice. Adam. I nod.

"I kept seeing everyone die. Always in different ways." I say and he falls silent.

"We'll make it through this." He says quietly and I find myself wanting to ask him how he knew that. How did he know we'd be alright? How did he know that nothing would go wrong? And in those moments I want to hit him. I want to scream. I want to cry all at the same time but I don't instead I just sit there and stare into the dark around me.

"How do you know?" I finally ask and it comes out quietly, barely audible. he sighs and his arms tighten around me.

"I don't. But we have all been through a lot and I figured if our worlds could seemingly end with no explanation and we could live through that, then we can live through whatever is going to happen tomorrow." he says and I find myself nodding. He had been banished from his home and learned how to live alone for however long. Jaclyn had lost everything and ran for hours terrified only to become an inn keeper who had nothing to fear until she found out about her power. Then she had figured out how to make it through that and more. Jason had witnessed his friends die brutally and then got mauled by a bear but still managed to live. Joseph had lost his wife and children in a fire but some how managed to fall for someone else. Serena had at one time had a family then she became a bar keep and had lead a hard life but she was still alive. I had lived on the streets all my life with a forbidden power and yet I was still here. We all had been to hell and back in different ways but yet we all were still living with the fire of life in us and burning strong.

"How long until we have to go?" I ask and I feel him shrug his shoulders.

"Several hours. You should get some sleep." he says and I nod, suddenly afraid that I'd see them all dying again.

"Adam?" I ask as he slides off the bed.

"Yes?" he asks and I see a shape near the bed.

"Stay with me until I fall asleep?" I ask and I feel the bed shift as he sits down and I lay down.
"Of course. I'll keep the nightmares at bay." he says and I smile a yawn fighting its way through the smile.

"With what?" I ask sleepily and he chuckles.

"My bare hands obviously." He says and then leans down and kisses my forehead.

"Goodnight, woodsman." I say and he chuckles.

"Goodnight, street rat." he says and I find myself smiling at the name. I fall asleep thinking of when we first met Adam.
