I was fighting with everything I had and by the time the fighting stopped everyone was tired but I didn't see any of the others. But I didn't go looking for them either, for I knew that the fight was a long ways from over. There was no way that the dark man would just roll over and let us win, no he would wait until he could attack and cause the most damage even if it cost him his army. As we waited for something to happen my thoughts start wandering to the previous night and I remember when I had made figures of fire dance along the ceiling and she had made figures of light dance with the fire and it made me smile despite what was going on around me and I found myself wondering if she was still alive. It was a terrible thought and I felt sick even as I shoved it out of my head. She was a fighter, she was still out there, still alive and waiting, just like me, for the last attack to happen. I see a figure up on a roof and see Adam standing against the sun, watching from above for danger and he waves to me. I wave back and then, just for a moment I see him, the man that had been haunted Jaclyn since before she could even understand why her family was killed. Then just like that he's gone and I'm tearing through the kings soldiers searching for Jaclyn and hoping I got to her before the man. Of course I should have known it didn't work like that.
