The healer who had treated the others on the battlefield was not happy that we had returned with a different healer. He had been stubborn but the second healer had simply walked into the house and started to treat the three others. The three women in the house had been just as vocal as the first healer but the second healer, Oliver he said was his name, had simply ignored them and set to work. He had let us sit in the house for a time and then he had shooed us out with instructions of finding something to do until he came and found us. Serena had listened to him as we were pushed out of the house and Adam and I had found things to do for some of the villagers nearby. It was dark when we all met up again and went to the now very busy tavern.
"I almost forgot the type of men that frequented taverns." Serena says as a man stumbles into her on his way out. Adam and I shared a look and she had waved away our questions as we claimed a table and a young girl came up to us and smiled brightly at Adam.
"Hi mister. What brings you here?" She asks and he looks at me, the question in his eyes. I shrug and Serena groans.
"Beat it girl, he's taken." She says and the girl glares at her and attaches herself to my arm.
"What about you mister? Care to walk me home?" She asks and I shake my head.
"I have a woman already, miss." I say and she frowns. Once she was gone we look to Serena who groans and puts her head in her hands.
"I made my living the way she does." She says and we raise our eyebrows.
"You were a-" Adam begins but doesn't finish.
"Whore? Yes." She says and a man saunters up to us. He pulls over a chair and looks Serena over.
"What brings you three here?" he asks and Serena looks to me.
"Just passing through, sir." I say and the man turns his attention to me though he glances at Serena every now and then.
"Really now? Thought I saw you three around old man Grey's home." He says and I shrug.
"We were probably around that area yes." I say smoothly. The man nods and looks at me with confusion on his face.
"What did you say your name was again, boy?" He asks and I glance at Adam who shakes his head slightly and then someone was tapping my shoulder. I look up to see one of the three woman from the healers house standing behind me, unsure of herself and I smile up at her.
"Oliver requests your presence." She says quietly and I nod. The three of us stand and follow her out of the tavern. We walk through the dark streets silently and my shoulder aches dully as we walk. I think back to the afternoon when I was shot and my father demanding to know what was going on, the terror on my mothers face. I push the images out of my head and soon find myself standing in front of the healers house. The girl opens the door and Oliver greets us. Lia and Joseph were up but Jaclyn was still laying still on the cot that I had set her on. My stomach turns at the sight of her deathly pale skin and the sound of her shallow breathing. A hand falls on my shoulder and I look up to see Oliver standing beside me.
"She'll live." He says quietly and then he leaves. A bag lays beside Lia and she hands it to me as I walk into the room. I open it to find a few small bottles in it and a slip of paper telling me what to do with each bottle. I close the bag again and sit next to Jaclyn. Her middle was wrapped again and the deeper cuts on her arms were also wrapped. The healer enters the room and crosses his arms over his chest.
"Out." he growls and I look up.
"What? Can't you see she's too sick-" Lia starts but he lifts his hand and she falls silent.
