CHAPTER 7 (part 1): General Buzz

Rowan

Ever since that night when Ariana begged me to become a "friend", I realized how much of an idiot I was to try and ignore my roommate. It turned out (as much as I hate to admit), Ari wasn't half as bad as I thought she was. Although she is somewhat annoying but she was really friendly, kind, understanding and well... sweet in some way. Ughm. I mean, she has her good sides too.

But the again, Ari always talks me into things that disrupt my schedule.

FLASHBACK-Thursday Night

"Ro!Ro!RO!" Ari repeats my name over and over again as I tried to review for a drill in PLS (Professionalism and Life skills). "Ro..." Ari says in a singsong voice. "RO!"

"What?" I ask, my voice dragging. I was too tired from all that whipping while I was making meringue during Baking and Pastry Techniques (BPT). The teacher wanted us to do it manually rather than using an electric mixer.

"Listen, listen!"

"I am listening."

"It's Jamie's birthday on sunday. Nick, Lannie, Buzz, Margie and I were planning to make a surprise party for him when he returns from tennis practice at 6:00pm."

"So?"

"Nick says Jamie's favourite is chocolate but we ran out for the cake. Buzz, Lannie and I were planning to get the ingredients from Rhinebeck at 9:00am so we could start working on the cake in the afternoon. Margie is going to cook up a few dishes while we're gone and Nick will keep Jamie from returning to the lodge during his breaks in practice. So... I was wondering if you would join us in Rhinebeck?"

"All right, all right..." I say to end the conversation. I really need to study.

"Yey!" Ari cheers. She acts just like a kid. Oh well, I need to focus on this drill..."

END OF FLASHBACK

Well, this is basically my fault. I couldn't just turn down a request I just said yes to. But then again, I was supposed to return to Acqua Panna for training with my dad. He'll be pissed to know I can't make it. It's quite sad to find your the only child of the Colave family. That makes you extra special and extra taken cared of. However, the pressure placed on you is trumendous.

Buzz, Lannie and Ariana were saying goodbye to Margie as they were filing into Buzz's old pick-up. I dialed the number of Acqua Panna and held it to my ear, waiting for someone to pick-up. Please don't let it be dad...

"This is Acqua Panna restaurant, how may I help you?" a young male voice echoes on the other line. Thank goodness it's Khalil.

"Hey, Khal." I greet and the other end went silent for a moment.

"Who am I speaking to?"

"This is Rowan."

A loud startled gasp came from the other end. "Sir Colave! Oh my, I am sorry, I didn't recognize you there." Khal apologizes. "Why are you dialing the reservations number?"

"Why do you ask 'how may I help you?' if you know it's going to be a reservation?" I counter.

"Good point. It's part of the drill, Sir. Your father told me what to do."

"Khal, Rowan is fine. Reserve your "Sirs" to your customers. Anyways, I can't make it to training today. Please pass it on to my dad."

"What? Your mother has been looking forward to how well you did in your first few days in college. She'll be sad to know you won't be coming home. I even made your favourite, tiramisu."
