Logan watched Rory as she was sleeping. She had been obsessing over the idea of getting their own place and while he was totally on board with the idea of them raising their child together in a home they could call their own, he couldn't help but think the way she was going about this was all wrong. She was doing it for all the wrong reasons, she was emotional, she was hormonal, and she wasn't in her right frame of mind. But he had no idea how he could get her to wake up and realize that she needed to think more rationally about this. He agreed they needed their own place, but not like this...
"You okay, man? You look like you've been run over by a bus" Luke said, seeing Logan walk into the kitchen.
Logan took in a deep breath and sighed. "Her hormones are going crazy" he muttered.
Luke nodded understandingly. "Boy, do I know what you mean, but I'm sure it's even worse for you with twins and all. Is she handling that any better?" He asked.
Logan shook his head 'no'. "Nah, man. Not really. She's having a really hard time with it" he said.
"Man, I'm sorry. I wish I had some way to help her, I just don't know what to do" Luke said helplessly.
"Actually, I was wondering if you and I could go somewhere to talk? You know, AWAY from all the flying hormones...?" Logan asked.
"Uhh... Yeah... Sure... Is everything okay?" Luke asked in concern.
"Man, I have absolutely no idea. That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about" Logan responded in defeat.
Luke nodded. "Give me ten minutes and I'll meet you outside" he said, and with that he headed up the stairs.
Logan didn't dare go back into my bedroom, in case I had woken up, so he made his way outside and waited for Luke on the front porch. He was already in deep thought by the time Luke walked outside.
"You ready to head out?" Luke asked, patting him sympathetically on the shoulder.
Logan nodded. "I have absolutely NO idea where we should go, but I just feel like anywhere but here right now is a good plan" he chuckled.
Luke nodded understandingly. "Then let's take a walk" he suggested. Logan nodded and they were on their way into the heart of the small town.
"I'm so sorry to drop this all on you, Luke, I just don't know who else to talk to about it. You're the closest thing to a father figure she has, and she's closest with you. I mean, I know we need our own place, but she needs her mom, too. They got into a heated - thing - in the kitchen, and immediately after, she sent me a text telling me we need to find our own place. She'll never forgive herself if she doesn't do this the right way. If she's doing it just out of spite because of a fight with her mom, then that's not okay. This is the worst possible time for either of them to be without their best friend" Logan explained.
Luke nodded. He wasn't really sure what to do either, but he knew Logan was right and they needed to figure out something.
"This is going to be tough, but it's important... Hey, Logan...? The way Rory's acting... Do you think she's going to be okay? Will she ever get past the shock?" Luke asked.
Logan shook his head. "I have no idea, Luke... I've never seen her like this before... She's always had her head about her in every situation that's been thrown at her" he said.
"Except now, she has zero control over anything, and it's got her so freaked out she doesn't know what to do..." Luke pointed out. Logan nodded in agreement.
**************
A few weeks had gone by and things hadn't gotten any better. If anything, things were worse. Logan's been away on business, Rory and Lorelai aren't speaking, and the only reason Rory communicates with Luke, is because he keeps her fed. Logan was going out of his mind not being able to be there, to help her, try to talk some sense into her, to comfort and calm her - although that doesn't even seem to work anymore.
He gets updates from Lorelai periodically, but they've been very one-sided and hormonally charged. Luke keeps him updated the best, they've become quite close because of all this, but that was a welcomed change to the strained relationship that they had before.
Luke says that Rory has still been incredibly distant, and has been lashing out hormonally - mainly at Lorelai, but it's even started to take jabs at Luke. Hearing that breaks Logan's heart. This isn't his Rory. This isn't like her at all. He knew that pregnancy changes your hormonal balance, but there was something more happening here, but how could he get her to see that without her turning on him as well? What if she cut him out for the rest of the pregnancy and he missed out on all of the baby stuff? The idea of that scared him more than anything. He loved his children so much already, and he never wanted to be apart from them. Would she do that to him? Would she really keep them away? Could he be strong enough to do what was right for her? Or would he just let her do whatever she wants til the babies are born and hope she goes back to normal after? Would she be even worse when the babies are here? Post... what did the doctor call it? Post... Partum... Depression? Would she be prone to that? The idea scared him. What was he up against here? Truth was, he had absolutely no idea, and perhaps that's what scared him the most of all. The unpredictability of her behavior, her emotions - what if she would never be back to her old self again...?
