Poland, 1944

Erik Lehnsherr was only 15 when he was brought inside an Auschwitz concentration camp, not long after going inside, he was separated from his parents.

Out of rage, out of fear and out of desperation - he ran after them, trying to push past the four Nazi soldiers that were barricading him.

He glared at the fence that limply stood between him and the horde of people that was shoving his only family away.

He reached out for it, and something inside him brewed , something stirred - like a pent up volcano, all of his frustration and rage erupted.

Along with the ability he never knew he had.

When he was called inside the office of Dr. Klaus Schmidt, he saw this as a chance to escape - if this ability could allow him to bend fences , imagine what it could do to the dozens of soldier roaming outside. He could not only free his parents , he could free everyone.

Hope sparked in his heart, but it was snuffed out just as quickly as it had appeared.

The ability he had labeled as a blessing was now a curse - a bad omen that had killed his mother when it was suppose to save her.Even if it was Schmidt who killed her, he was the one who made him pull the trigger.

As she died, a part of him went with her as well.

Her last words were ;

" Alles ist gut."
( all is well.)

She said it over and over like a mantra, a prayer to comfort her son - for she knew that he would never be the same afterwards.

She as wrong , everything wouldn't be alright, and for Erik Lehnsherr, it would never will be.

Although, she was right on one thing ; he would never be the same afterwards.

Changsha, 1944

Lin Na was only 12 when she saw the Imperial troops invade the Hun Nan province - shoving people out of their homes.

The doll that dangled from her arms fell to the floor, fear paralyzing her as she watched silently from the window of her home.

The pounding of her heart drowned her ears, so when her mother came rushing to her room, she could barely register what she was saying.

All she could hear was frantic muttering, as she shoved some of her clothes inside a bag with one hand wrapped around Lin Na's little brother.

Soon they fumbled out of the house, sprinting towards the stretch of forest by the side of the province.

Lin Na could barely keep up with her mother's pace, her hand slipping out of her grip every now and then.

Lin Na started crying, tears cascaded down her cheeks- her baby brother , sensed the fear of his sister and followed shortly.

Her mother stopped, kneeling down in front of her children, trying to hush them - afraid that the soldiers would know where they were.

" 不要害怕"
( don't be scared.)

For a moment, Lin Na felt courage bloom inside her, but it welted as soon as she saw the imperial troops closing in towards them.

They were too close, they couldn't run, if they did they'll see them and plunge a bullet against their heads.

They won't stand a chance.

Her fingers wrapped around her mother's, and they were taunt and cold - as if it might snap if she hold on to them any tighter.

She wished to disappear, she wished to become invisible - to be able to hide.

As if it was some miracle, her wish was granted- with the awakening of the mutant genes inside her.

When the troops were only steps away from her, Lina Na was ready to face them - she expected them to drag her back to the village with the rest who were captured, or even to shoot her right in place.

Yet, they looked through Lin Na as if she was never there.

She looked over to her mother, and beside her the soldiers ran past them without taking any notice. Her mother watched, grounded in place as she blinked out tears of shock and relief.

Once their footsteps died down - something pierced through Lin Na like a gust of wind. She looked around, and a bird nestled between the tress gave her a curious look.

Her mother collapsed, and soon little brother started wailing once more.

That night her mother set camp for the three of them, and she talked about boarding on a ship that would take them far, far away from here - from the soldiers.

Lin Na would go anywhere, as long as her mother and brother were safe - now that she has this peculiar ability of being invincible, of being concealed by some kind of shield , she felt no need to feel afraid.

Her mother gave her only daughter a worried glance, holding out a hand for her to take. She rubbed small circles around her palms, as if she was trying to comfort her.

She could tell from the look in her eyes, she was just as shaken as she was with the new discovery. Yet she gave her a weak smile, and she repeated once again ; that she shouldn't be afraid.

Lin Na wasn't afraid of what happened today , but she would never be the same afterwards.
