Beijing, China
1962

Lin Na was shoved out of the boat and under the pelting rain by of the ocean of passengers. She navigated her way through the crowd, not bothering to use the umbrella as she struggled to escape the heap of bodies.

The bleak morning sky reflected itself against the low tides surrounding the ship, and Lin Na squinted through the thin layer of fog as she walked down the metal ramp.

Her eyes lit up when she saw two figures approached her, one belonged to and old and limping woman and the other belonged to a boy in his teens. The boy gently held the old woman's arm in his, and he pushed his cap off, getting a better look at Lin Na.

" 姐姐..."
(jiějiě)
Big sister

He breathed out, looking at Lin Na as if he had just seen a ghost, with his damp hair swept across his knitted brows. He stood there gaping at her , body rigid and tense.

The old woman dropped the umbrella she was gripping above her head, and she flashed her a grin, eyes brimming with tears,
" 真的吗?"
(Zhēn de ma?)
" Is it really true / can this be ? "

Lin Na placed a hand over her mouth, after all these years. She opened her arms, running towards the pair.

The old woman embraced her daughter with a hug, clinging onto her as if she might slip away any second. Lin Na buried her face on the crook of her mother's neck, savoring the long awaited moment. She couldn't believe it - she was here, she was really here.

She turned to face the boy standing next to her, and she chocked out a laugh," Don't tell me you forgot about me,

弟弟."
( dìdì )
little brother

The teen grinned," How could I ? "

He looped an arm around her waist, and for once, after what felt like eternity, she felt at home.

Lin Na couldn't care less about the fact that they were standing under the rain, in the midst of a restless crowd of people.

She no longer has to fear about running away, nor does she has to ever worry about loosing her family - because they were here with her. She did it, she made it back. To them.

Her body slumped against them, and she gripped them tightly.

" I'm home."
